Roberto Clemente All Star Team?
Control, it's all about control. He has mastered his change-up, fastball, slider, and 2 Seamer.
One thing why people have a hard time hitting against him is because he's a lefty. Also, Johan isn't the one who will throw the ball like Liriano just does, he will take aim, wind up, then throw.
I don't really know why people have a hard time against this guy, they just do! He is just that good and deserved to win a Cy Young back in 05.

Because he is AMAZING. He has control, he puts the ball where we wants when he wants against who he wants. He has a great change up to acompany his fast ball and slider.Josh Hancock's family is suing?!?

4. He's simply amazing.
What is the NY Yankee record for the highest batting average in a single season and who holds it?
he has great control nd placement...a fast pitche can be picked up on easier than someone who can be unexpecting and have great placement of the ballMinnesota rocks he is unbeatable he is the best Pitcher in baseball that is why nobody can hit off him. Yeah Twins are the best and Johan rocks
I never knew that the keys to success as a pitcher depended on an awkward delivery and a curveball. Someone should tell Cooperstown because no curve or a funky delivery describes more than half of the pitchers in there.
It's already been mentioned that Santana has great control and a great changeup. What nobody has said is that his fastball hits around 97 when he wants it to, that his change has late movement, that he mixes in a really good slider, is willing to waste pitches and trusts his catcher. He throws his fastball where hitters don't want it; he has a change that comes in far enough behind his fastball that swinging for a fastball gives hitters no chance but trying to put the brakes on a swing leaves them way behind the pitch, and if they guess right on the change its late movement drops it below the swing so batters swing over it or send easy grounders to the middle infield; his slider looks just like his fastball which looks just like his changeup so batters that really dig in get something they have no chance of reaching and wasting a pitch (which a lot of pitchers won't do) is a easy and effective way to break up a batter's 'tunnel vision' if he thinks they're seeing his pitches too well.
For those who read any sports pages did Joe Dimaggio hit 15 home runs in July 1947?
1) he hides his pitches well2) the way he throws has the ball come at a different angle which lessens the area where a batter can hit the ball
Does Roger Clemens' latest move disgust you too...?
He is able to fool the players by mixing up his pitches. He also has awesome control and makes the batters swing at his pitches. Have you seen the movement he gets on his pitches? How to put more velocity in your pitches?
His outstanding control, location, and ability to change speeds with the same motion. He's very deceptive. How many innings was the longest MLB game ever?
His strength is his superior control -- not only throwing strikes, but hitting the spots he wants to hit. He changes locations and speed well, and keeps the hitters off balance.More Questions & Answers...
