In Little League Baseball, should an umpire be allowed to call a game for whatever reason they want?

Question:Should an umpire be allowed to call a game if it isn't finished in the regulated amount of time? Little League rules state that a game ends after 6 innings or the umpire calls the game. Our local league implemented a time limit rule--games have to finish within 2 hrs. 15 minutes. If they don't make the time, the umpire is allowed to call the game. Isn't this a misapplication or misinterpretation of the original rule? I'm sure the intention of the rule allowing an umpire to call a game was implemented more for bad weather or a protest or a situation of that nature. I doubt it was implemented so a game could be rushed through before the six innings.

Baseball question!?!?

Sounds like something needed to happen if the game went on and on. If someone doesn't end the little league games they will go on for weeks! Some time its for the better, take the kids out for pizza or ice cream to celebrate good effort and eveyrone will be happy.

Should alcohol be ban from games?

A time limit is just that. Play stops -- even if the score is tied. this applies to divisions below Majors. Time limits are allowed in Majors, but only on the first game when more than one game is scheduled for the same field on the same day. If the game is not regulation when the time limit is reached, the game continues later.

I don't understand what you think the problem is.

Does anyone have any upper deck kids codes for 100+ points?

I think the rule is designed to be pragmatic - kids don't benefit from 3 hour games, especially if they are one-sided or a case of both teams doing all they can to lose.

Before this rule, I had a 4 hour marathon game once where the final score was something like 28-25. It was a parade of pitchers for both sides, neither of which could find the plate with a compass and map. Walk after walk after walk.

In our league, there are no time limits on any majors games, and a time limit on minors ONLY if there is a game following. Our 10-run rule is not mandatory - it is at the option of the losing manager.

Why did the Boston Red Sox wear green jerseys tonight?

Leagues may, and do modify "rule book rules," This is done for many reasons. Some league rules will be the timed game, some run limits per inning, some uniform requirements are changed (did you know that coaches by rule are required to wear a complete uniform, including cleats?).

Time limits are added usually to allow the next game(s) to start on time, and avoid having kids playing late at night. There are also differences in time limits. Some are "drop dead limits" which means the game ends imediatley when the clock runs out. If the home team is batting, and in the lead, the score at that time remains. Otherwise the score will revert to the previous inning. Another limit is that no new inning will start after a particular time. If the last out for the home team occurs in say the 4th inning, and there is even 1 second left on the clock, the 5th inning will be played in full.

Please note however, the umpires do not call the game when the clock runs out, the rules do. Also, a protested game is not "called" or stopped. It (the protest, if a legal protest) is noted, play continues and the game is replayed from the point of protest IF THE PROTEST IS UPHELD.

The UIC can halt a game for weather, darkness, or unsportsmanlike conduct, and if they have played enough innings, the game will be official (usually 4-1/2, or 5 innings, but that can vary too).

If both teams hustle on and off the field, batters don't stand at the plate trying to draw walks, pitchers don' kick, and scratch in the dirt and act as if the are playing MLB, it is easy to play 6 innings in under 2 hrs. Some of the delays can be correctected by the umpires, but a lot has to be done by the players and coaches. Hustle up, and you'll play a full game.

How did the Mets get rocked by Clippard?

I have no problem with the time limit. As for me when starting out with Little League baseball 14 years ago, I wish they had a time limit.
But, the game can not be called automatically once the time is up. You must finish the inning you are in once the time limit is reached. So I think it is pretty fair. 2+15 for 6 innings is more then enough time.
