Why are local Little Leagues allowed to impose a time limit on games?
Question:Instead of allowing games to go for 6 innings, our Little League set a time limit of 2 hrs 15 minutes. If the inning isn't finished in that timeframe, the game is called and the score is reverted back to the previous inning. I don't understand the reasoning for this new rule. Little League wasn't like this when I used to play, it's ridiculous and unfair. So does anyone know the intention of the time limit and when it came into effect? I can understand if there are multiple games scheduled on that field, but what if it's the last game of the day? Doesn't it seem ridiculous to impose this rule when the kids want to at least finish the inning?
Answers:
Keep in mind that the game must go 3 1/2 or 4 innings (whichever is needed) to become official. If the game is not official when time is up, the teams have to continue later.
If the home team ties or takes the lead in the fourth inning and the game is called because of the time limit, the score does not revert to the previous inning.
Time limits are allowed for divisions below Majors, with no requirement that they be regulation games to become official.
Are the Yankees finished this year as far as the playoffs go?
Because kids require extra time to for all the constant pep talks from the coach. 6 innings would take 6 hours.I don'y know when they started but I'm sure the purpose was to be fair to all the kids. I know it seems unfair when you're the last game of the day but when they play earlier, all you'd hear is "They got to finish last night". For the later games, there is probably an element of wanting the kids to be done at a decent hour so they don't lose sleep. It's different than when we were kids but when I was a kid, we didn't have as many teams sharing a field and most fields didn't have lights so lots got called for dark anyway. I guess I'm dating myself a bit, but that's how it was.
Who is the best team in the National League?
It is only unfair if all teams are not scheduled early and late games equally. On a school night the time limit prevents kids from being out very late then trying to get o school next day.
I once umpired in a league in which there was a 2- hr limit but remember if the 5th ends in 1 hr 58 min then you play the 6th -- rulebook states the time is set by the third out of previous inning.
