Mickey MantlePete Rose
Which player had the best nickname?
Probably Ty Cobb-he could do it all. You`re going to get 100 different answers & for good reason, I can think of 10 good names. I`ll just say Hank Aaron, because he is 1st or 2nd on so many records lists.
Who is the starting catcher for Toronto?
Reed Johnson - Toronto Blue JaysIs it BS that a batter isn't credited with an RBI if a run scores from a double play?
Talk about doing it all--it has to be Babe Ruth. Not only was he the greatest HR hitter of his time (he hit more than most teams) but he was one of the greatest pitchers of his era. Had he continued on as a pitcher he would have made it to the Hall of Fame easily as well. All around, i don't think we'll ever see someone dominate the plate and the mound like that. What do you think about what curt shilling said about Barry Bonds?
ty cobb. stolen bases,,, lifetime avg.. 2nd in triples ... 2nd in hits...Mike Piazza the best Met ever?
Babe RuthRegular left fielder for 1961 yankees?
A far too subjective of a question, but anyone answering with a player before the integration of the game, in my opinion is automatically wrong. Those players at the time (including Babe Ruth) didn't even compete against the best players of their era because blacks weren't allowed. For my money I would say Alex Rodriguez. He is already established himself as a player that can hit for average, power and defensive prowess; not to mention he is one of only three players to go 40-40 and one of the other two has admitted to using steroids.Could A-Rod have hit that clutch grand slam in a playoff game?
WOW...All those answers and NO ONE has even mentioned Teddy Ballgame!
Just THINK of how much more impressive Ted Williams' resume would look if he didn't spend time in BOTH WWII AND Korea? Or maybe that DOES make his resume that much more impressive...
Not only a great (in my mind THE greatest) baseball player ever to step on a diamond, but a great soldier and a great American patriot.
10 easy points...Which pitcher will have the most strikeouts tonight?
WILLIE MAYSBARRY BONDS
HANK AARON
KEN GRIFFEY JR
SAMMY SOSA
MARC MCGUIRE
Ruth. He could both hit and pitch very well plus he drew crowds. What more do you want. Show one player EVER who can hit 60HRs and Win 20 games. ( not in the same season of course). There is only one answer to your question: The Babe.
ted williams... hit for average and power
i would say ronnie belliard or kevin frandsen. what a day frandsy had
Can a pitcher earn the win and the save in the same game?
Theres probably a pool of about 10 guys? Question is too broad. Best pure hitter, Ted Williams. Best Pitcher would probably be Sandy Koufax or Walter Johnson. Total package would be Jackie Robinson. Baseball was his worst sport. Is Cleveland Indians the best team in baseball as of right now?
I'd say Hank Aaron,,,,,,,,the man was awesome .did it all and he didn't even run his mouth...or have to take steroids to do it..Hank is the best of all time...When does baseball season offically begin??
An often overlooked player when this question is discussed is Stan Musial, he led the national league in Batting Average 7 different seasons, and ranks 4th all-time in hits. He never won a single season HR title, but has more HR's in his career than anyone who never led his league in any one year. He has 4 MVP's and 2 World Championships with the Cardinals to his credit, Stan you are the overlooked player in this discussion. Why can't I ever be happy with myself? (Softball)?
Babe Ruth or Ty Cobb..Hank Aaron too!List your nightmare (as in terrible) baseball lineup.?
Definitely Babe Ruth because he revolutionized the game."Hit em where they ain't" was the old school thought. Well, they "ain't" on the other side of that fence.
Compared to his peers, he was a giant (no Bonds pun intended). He also hit .342.
When you think Cobb, and .367, that's only 25 points higher (or 7%). Ruth had 170+ walks WITH Lou Gehrig behind him.
Integration wasn't Ruth's fault. Anyone that holds that against him is sadly overestimating some basic population density meausres and that the field of blacks that could have been in baseball wasn't what it is now by any stretch of the imagination.
The fact that you don't have to mention the pitching record is what's outstanding about Ruth.
Aaron did what he did in 4000 more at bats than Ruth. No one (EVER) stacks up to his peers like Ruth did.
Someone mentioned Arod, well, he isn't even the best amongst active players by many measures, how could he be the best of all times. Bonds was a great player before his ego convincing his mind that he should get those accolades and not McGwire and Sosa.
But Bonds didn't distance guys like Ramirez and Frank Thomas like Ruth distanced EVERYONE.
Arod's OPS+ for his career high isn't close to Ruth's average.
For Bonds to do (in 2001) what Ruth did in either 21 or 27, Bonds would have had to hit 200 home runs. (10x the 'average' player)
I would say it's a cake walk, but Ruth would have eaten it if it was.
Jose Canseco is the best because he outed all the cheaters in baseball and made MLB do something about steroids
How do you throw a splitter, curveball, and a cutter?
Ted Williamsbarry bonds!!
WELL I GUESS TODAY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FREDDY LEWIS TODAY!! :):)
GO GIANTS!
Is asking your offense to score 16 runs for support asking a lot?
Hmm...the BEST player EVER?Has to be me.
I'm so good, they won't let me play in the majors.
You don't think it's me? Ok.
Then I gotta vote for Johnny Pesky.
Sure he only hit 12 home runs, and 6 of them were around his now famous pole at Fenway. But Johnny is both alive and kicking, plus he's still an instructor hitting balls to the kids for the Red Sox. Over 50+ years in baseball.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)
In their prime which 3 would you pick in a homerun derby?
babe ruthHasn't Barry bonds already been proven he has taken performance enhancement drugs?
I can't believe there hasn't been more talk of Willie Mays. Not only did the man hit 660 home runs, and hit 1903 (with 10 seasons over 100, and few more in the 90s) RBIs, he also stole 338 bags and hit for an avg. of .302. In addition to all this offensive firepower, he won 12 gold gloves, and managed to score over 100 runs for 12 straight seasons (and missed a 13th consecutive season by one run). Also, he won rookie of the year and NL MVP twice.
If not him I'd say Ken Griffey Jr, for an equally astounding mix of power and fielding prowess.
Most over-rated player in baseball?
josh gibson. over 800 homers, great hitter, great catcher and he was playing against the best ball players of his day.people call josh gibson the babe ruth of the negro leagues.
i call babe ruth the josh gibson of the major leagues.
Where can I get the Pittsburgh Pirate theme song " a new pirates generation"?
Willie MaysWhat's your favortie mlb team and why?
I can't believe no one has said Cal Ripken Jr.! No matter what stats you throw out there, this guy had the most important one. He was there ready to play everyday. He was a leader and a gentleman. He is what baseball is all about. He came to the ballpark ready to give it his all. He played for one team his whole career. That shows he had loyalty, something you rarely see this time and age. So I have to say Cal Ripken Jr.!!!Who was the first major league catcher to hit 20 homers and steal 20 bases in one season, in 1999?
there are at least 3 players from the Kansas city Monarchs that should make the list but never had the stats recorded because they where in the negro leagues.. satchel Paige was the best pitcher in over 80 years buck O'Neil was a complete monster in the box and catcher who's name i forgot had an estimated over 700 hr in his career in the negro leagues but no one thinks of that because they where in fact in the negro leaguethat is a very tuff question. you want someone that is as good on defense as well as a hitter.i think the best pitcher was bob gibson. knowone liked to hit against him. i think the most feared batter would be mickey mantle.the reason i say this is that he never played healthy and still got these great stats.no other player can say this.very close to mantke would be roberto clemente.i saw clemente hit the ball against tuff pitchers whenh knowone else could touch him.there will never be an agree ment by everyone.the best defensive player i ever saw was brooks robinson. he killed the reds during the world series.do away with all the stats and you still have to be a team player.too many hot dogs out there today
