What do you think of baseballs being a florescent orange color instead of white?

Surprisingly, the orange baseball isn't as great as it would seem; I know from personal experience.

Way back in the stone age when the last dinosaur had died just the week before and I was young (the 60s), the Pony League in which I played experimented with orange baseballs. Well.during the daytime, they seemed to be better than white balls, but as a hitter it was terrible trying to pick up the spin of the ball because the seams were still made of red string. (Red on orange? Think about it!) Perhaps they would have been better with white stitching, but since we didn't make the balls we had to take what there was. There were also more problems with the ball sometimes blending in with the ground a little quicker, as well as the orange making one's depth perception a little more inconsistent than with white balls.

At night, I hated them! One would think the orange would stand out like a sore thumb, but I, along with many other players, had a very difficult time picking up the ball if there was anything like a colored shirt in the stands, or if the ball blended in with the dirt of the infield. The ball, when hit in the air, actually seemed BIGGER than it was for some strange reason against the night sky so that was a positive, but on the ground or hit on a line, it was white - not orange - that seemed to be easier to track visually.

My opinion? Though I prefer to hit orange golfballs while out on the links because the ball is easier to see and to find, in baseball there are still a couple of drawbacks to the orange ball. Perhaps if the stitching is white like I suggested earlier and the ball is day-glo orange but with no glare, they would be fine. Otherwise, I would say simply stick with the white ball. :-)

Where can I find the answers to the 2001 Babe Ruth Umpire Certification Test?

well we'd be able to see them better. I just don't think I like that color. White is just better.

Why would you want to visit the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore?

The ball has been white for a long time now and I am sure that they are not going to change it. White is better anyway.

Does Alex Rodriguez have a brother that plays for Detroit named Ivan Rodriguez?

If you've seen it, after all the dirt and scuffs on a baseball it is far from white lol. But that would have to be a no. The ball being white makes it easier for umpires to make a call because they see it better. Say someone is using a bright red glove, which outfielders can use. The ball being orange, is hit on the linedrive. The fielder dives to catch the ball, now because the ball is a similar color to the glove the umpire might miss the call because he cannot tell if the ball was caught on a fly or bounced.

Which Is more rare?

Baltimore Orioles?

What drills are good for middle school baseball?

Charlie Finley suggested it back in the late 60's. I'm pretty sure we was behind the old ABA red white and blue basketball too. I like the white ball.

Best or worst owner in baseball?

Charlie Finley is dead, and that horrific idea died with him.

Where can i turn in baseball cards for money?where can i look for prices on the web?

In real life baseballs do get far from white by the end of a game, but in Major League Baseball the balls are swapped in and out so often that it would be very rare to see a semi dirty ball being played with.
