What's a utility player in baseball?
GPC all most has the right answer. He correctly stated that his hands are extended at impact. Let me guess, he probably plays golf? Now, know one stated how to correct these errors. People got answer but no solutions. The problem is his arms but more importantly his back foot. Someone stated watch a ML and follow their swing. Yes but what to look for?
Here is a guarantee for your son to quicken his swing and have a proper baseball swing. If you dont already have one, get a baseball tee, some whiffel balls and a net or tarp. Follow my steps and he will have a great swing.

The Fundamentals of Baseball
Hitting
1.Stride and Separation- a short step forward with weight going slightly back on back leg. 40-60 split. Also hands separating back as you take the short stride. Make sure hands go back about 3-6 inches, keeping a flex in your front elbow, don’t lock it out. Hands should go straight back not up or down. Head doesn’t move forward, key to stay still! (Practice by dry work, soft toss and T-Work.)
2.Backside turn- the swing starts from the ground up, and back foot must lead before anything else. Get on the toe, only a slight turn—not too much. Hands do not move forward stay going back. Make sure front hip, shoulders do not move as well. I guarntee when he practices this step that his front half will either open up to soon or his front hip or either hands come forward. This is the most important step and make sure that only backside turn of foot, everything else is still!!!(Practice by dry work and soft toss or also t-work.)
3.Front Leg Straight, Knob of Bat inside Ball-. At this point you recognize pitch and location. You start by continuing to turn back foot then bring knob of bat inside ball, wherever pitch is. Both hands should be close to body as possible. Shoulders rotate across no dipping. At impact, front knee is straight, front elbow is straight, back elbow is bent underneath and close to body, and you are finishing behind ball. Back leg at impact is a L and Head is directly inline with back knee. Practice by, t-work and follow-through drill in mirror.
4.Finishing the swing and balanced- Full turn with back foot, and weight should be back and finish balanced “behind the ball”. Bat finishes through as well balanced!
Little keys:
T-Work is the easiest way to practice the four steps. Middle pitch line up tee in line with front leg and outside pitch with back leg. Practice no stride to give the feeling of balance and stride. Always think inside half of the ball by attacking inside (think taking knob of the bat inside the ball but making sure backside turn before hands come forward.) Outside pitch nothing changes, except where you hit it and just have to wait longer. Inside pitch, recognize and turn a little more on back foot before hands come forward. Off speed, recognize and keep weight and hands back (step 2) taking the pitch up the middle or to opposite field.
Training: dry work; practicing the 4 points mentioned above.
Soft toss; another person tossing the ball about waist high (in, mid, away)
T-Work; using a tee and practicing inside, middle, and outside pitches
Our Goal: To successfully teach these basics to take into the game. Only going to be done by practicing these 4 steps repeatedly over time and by doing these steps correctly. Perfect practice makes perfect.
What model wood bat does alex rodriguez use?
He is either diving into the ball and swinging late,or standing to close to the plate.Try backing him up a step and see what happens.1. Shorten his swing -- make sure he's not reaching for pitches.
2. See if he is crowding the plate, maybe take a slight step back.
3. Practice by throwing your son some BP, with various pitch locations, you can usually see what he is doing wrong in this case.
4. Choke up on the bat, make sure he is in control of his swing -- mainly the bat isn't swinging him because it is too heavy or something.
There could be several reasons, here are a couple simple things to look for:
1) Is he closer to the plate now? Stand further away.
2) Does he extend his arms too soon? Keep the arms in until he's over the plate.
3) Has the bat size changed? Adjust appropriately.
Most likely it's #2, young players try to gain more power on their swing by extending their arms, but if they do this too early it's counterproductive. Best bet is to record his swing (video) and observe where his hands are at the point of contact.
How many world series have the orioles won?
listen to jackdupp1 and GPCThere could be several reasons to why he's getting jammed.
He may crowd the plate to much and without quick enough bat speed it will prevent him from getting the sweet part of the bat on the ball on the inside pitches. You need to also watch his head when he swings the bat, not just once, but atleast ten pitches he swings at. You want to make sure your head is down on the ball and not flying out. But my guess would probably be bat speed. There are drills you can do to improve that as well as lifting weights. You might also tell him to choke up and shorten his swing.
Who do you think is better, the Yankees or the Mets?
He needs to step further back in the batter's box. It sounds as if he is literally leaning over the plate and then can't extend his arms in hitting the ball. I bet he is hitting the ball inside-out, due to not getting the proper extension. Why is carlos zambrano struggling so far this year?
If your son is getting jammed on pitches on the innerlf of the plate it may be 2 things i can think of. Either his hands are getting outside of the baseball. Your hands should always stay inside the ball. Or he might be getting his front foot down too late. You hit different pitches at different times. Like an outside pitch you late travel to the back corner of the plate, and an inside pitch you swing earlier. But if your son is getting his front foot down at the same time every pitch he doesn't have enough time to get his hands to contact on certain pitches. Almost every hitter in the world moves there front foot for timing. Get it down early. And keep your hands back. Hope this helps.More Questions & Answers...
