What is the difference between a slider and a sinker?
Question:

What is in line for the Dodgers this season?
A slider is a tough pitch because of its spin. Any experienced player knows that hitters rely on spin to determine what pitch is coming. That is why a change up is so hard to hit.it resembles a fastball spin, but comes much slower.Coming from a right handed pitcher to a right handed batter, a slider will have a tight spin with the direction coming from about the 11 o'clock position to the 5 o'clock position. The pitch is thrown hard, sometimes reaching into the upper 80's and even lower 90's. The speed is where the deception comes from..its velocity is close to a fastball, but with a strong break away and down. The pitch usually moves farther away than it does down...It "slides" out of the strike zone, hence the name...
A sinker will have a 12 to 6 rotation.the ball will look like it comes out of the top of a pitchers hand. The ball will have a sharp break almost straight down, rather than side to side. This pitches speed is usually in the 60's. It is much slower than a fastball and slider, and is relative to a change up, the only difference is the movement.
Now for a sinking fastball. Some pitchers throw a 2 seam fastball that "runs" or "dives". The reason for this is the pressure a pitcher puts on the seams of the ball, causing a tighter rotation to one side or the other. A sinking fastball is a 2 seam fastball, thrown with pressure applied to the tips of the fingers to cause a downward bite on the ball when it nears the strike zone. It is different from a slider b/c of the grip and the spin, but it can closely relate to one.
Why is Hank Aaron considered great?
a slider can mover horizontally as well as vertically but sinkers only move verticallysliders are faster than sinkers as well
Who is going to have the best record. Cubs or Whitesox?
Sinker moves from up to down.Slider usually moves away from the batter and sometimes incorporates the downward spin as well.
Some pitchers two seam fastballs have late downward movement and that is called a sinker. A slider is an offspeed pitch that moves horizontally but should also drop or it will get hit a mile.
