Yankees question: Why was Mariano Rivera playing center field for an inning during an April game in Minnesota?

Question:Were there no other outfielders available? If so, why not use one of the less valuable pitchers? Wasn't this a foolish risk for Joe Torre to take?

Answers:

How long will A-Rod stay hot and do well in the clutch?

Rivera never played OF during a game. It was the game Yankees beat Minnisota 10-1 on April 10th. I'll break it down for you:
1. In the 8th inning of that game Kevin Thompson pinch ran for Jason Giambi.
2. Kevin Thompson at that point became the DH (the position Giambi was playing).
- Note - In the American League, when the DH player is moved into a position on the field, there is no more DH, the pitcher is then slotted in the lineup instead.
3. Kevin Thompson was moved from DH to CF in the bottom of the 9th inning -- thus putting Johnny Damon as the "DH", which is now the pitchers spot.
4. Now Mariano Rivera comes in to replace Johnny Damon.

Its kind of a weird AL double switch.

Have any Vin scully stories?

Because Joe Torre is a Jack ***

Why don't Baseball fan's want instant...?

Rivera did not play outfield, and has never played outfield. The only position he's ever played in the big leauges is pitcher. You may want to check the box score of the game in question.
