Because it's FUN. For the most part, it's all done in good fun, those who take it seriously, well, "too" seriously, have issues far beyond baseball anyway. It adds an intensity to the game.Yank fans try to use the excuse that Sox fans are jealous of the Yanks. If you enter the real world, that doesn't really make any sense, since you can be a supporter of whatever team you choose. If it were only about WS rings, then that may work, but sadly, it's not.

They are two of the biggest teams in baseball. No other team spends the amount of money on players as these two. The Yankees love to take players from the Red Sox, just because they can. Clemons, Damon, Bellhorn, Mienckiewitz(spelling) etc... Also, they are in the same division and play each other in the playoffs often.Both teams come from cities where their fans live and die baseball, and are generally obnoxious. There is also much more to the rivalry. It has gone on for quite sometime.

k, well back in the 1920's when Babe Ruth was traded to the Yanks, he was just an ok player. Then he moved on to be one of the best to play the game ever. some fans are dumb, but there has been tensions between the 2 teams for a long time. It sparked a lot in the 70's (Bill Lee fight, Fisk/Munson fight) and early this century (Varitek A-Rod fight)Mostly becuase you have 2 teams that play in the same division, who are good every year, and battle each other 19 times a year.
Can't say much about the fans...some just want to be stupid.
