Halladay is my favorite pitcher on my favorite team, but he is not as good as Johan Santana.Doc is an outstanding pitcher, a guy who will eat innings without having many bad outings, and a Cy Young contender in most seasons if he stays healthy. Santana, however, is one of those once-or-twice-in-a-generation guys like Pedro, Big Unit, Clemens, and a few others, a guy who will seem like a Hall of Fame lock by age 30.
Halladay would likely fare better with a sturdier bullpen, but the Jays' offense over the past several seasons has actually been quite good. I'm hoping we get another 3-4 strong seasons out of him, and that by then we have someone to succeed him as a true staff ace.

I think Halladay is a terrific pitcher, but he's the second best pitcher in the AL behind Santana. The questions you ask would affect number of wins, but not ERA. You could consider how he'd pitch if the Blue Jays didn't play so many games against the Yankees and Red Sox. Also, the D Rays have a much more potent offense than the Royals. So, sure, maybe his ERA would be lower if he didn't pitch in the AL East, but those are the breaks.I spy something black...what is it?

He has never been on my Fantasy team, but I have always matched up with him in the playoffs at year's end. He will always be part of a good team's roster and is a huge, red-haired dude that brings serious skills to the mound. I would not enjoy batting against him. If Halladay pitched for any team not in Canada, he would be a bigger star. His health is spotty, but when on the mound, he is tough to hit. I would consider him a top 10 pitcher, but Santana is #1 on that list.
It was studly of him, going ten innings against Detoit a few weeks ago. Rare to see the starter go into extras any more.

Doc is a top tier pitcher, no question. Probably the #2 starter in the league (despite the lack of media hype), However, Santana is in a class of his own, the guy is a machine on the mound.As far as the better offense/bullpen part, I agree the middle relief is spotty in recent years, but Doc tends to pitch into the late innings so often that I really dont see it affecting him at all. The Jays offense however has been top 5 for a long time, its one of the most potent in the league (even with all the injuries), it cant get much better.

He is a great pitcher who gets overlooked due to the fact he plays in Canada. He has a Cy Young for goodness sake and people just dont think of him as the dominant pitcher that he is.Same thing with Vladimir Guerrero. Played in Montreal and while people knew of him, its nothing near the recognition he gets now while playing in Anaheim.
