Do you think A-Rod might have a Chance at the HR Record For A Single Season?
The Dodgers won the 1988 World Series in a huge upset over the Oakland A's. That was the Series where Kirk Gibson came off the bench to hit the game winning home run. The A's had a great lineup and pitching staff at the time with players like Jose Canseco, Ricky Henderson, Dave Stewart, and Dennis Eckersley. The Dodgers had Orel Hershiser, Steve Sax, Pedro Guererro and Kirk Gibson. The last time the L.A. Dodgers won the World Series was in 1988, when they defeated the Oakland A's 4 games to 1. Orel Hershiser pitched a shutout in game 2 (and had 2 or 3 base hits himself!), and won the finale 5-2. Mickey Hatcher had 2 big home runs in the Series, Mike Davis had a big one in game 5, Jay Howell saved game 4 after having been removed from game 3 for having pine tar on his glove - but of course the thing most people remember is Kirk Gibson's 2-out 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth in game 1 that gave the Dodgers a 5-4 victory.
Prior to that, the L.A. Dodgers won Series in 1981, 1965, 1963, and 1959, while losing Series in 1978, 1977, 1974, and 1966.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Oakland A's 4 games to 1 in 1988.
Anyone else find it funny that Clemens announced his return in this particular game?
