The Yankees are the best team in the history of sports. Is A-rod the best player in the history of baseball?
Question:
Answers:
Is Carlos Ruiz the Phillies' new starting catcher? What about Barajas?
NO NOT EVEN CLOSE.Why does the Red Sox treat their star players like red headed step children?
Correction: American sports. A rod isn't even close to being the best ever in baseball history. Maybe the most over-priced / over-rated.What all is involved in a Major League baseball player's ridiculous salary?
ARE YOU SERIOUS? I'm sorry but that's one of the stupidest questions I've ever heard...Ever hear of guys like Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle....?? ALL BETTER than A-ROD....
Who thinks the Cubs will og all the way?
Babe Ruth is the greatest ever. A-Rod 1000 Hrs?..get realDerek Jeter hit his 1st home run of the year off of what pitcher?
The problem with making sweeping statements on how many home runs he will hit in his career is that you have to make some pretty bold assumptions.Perhaps, when his contract runs out, he may not find a team that wants to pay him $20-$25 mil and he would rather retire.
Injury factor, perhaps the fans that boo him in NYC actually contribute to him hanging them up and giving the 'fans' of NY a friendly single finger salute.
The other issue is what defines the best player in history.
He has won 2 MVPs, so the writers have determined that he was the best player in ONE league twice.
(golf clap)
Juan Gonzalez won 2, Frank Thomas won 2 in a row, Robin Yount won two (at different positions). Are they also the best of all time.
Bonds won 7, at least 3 of which may have been unmedicated.
The real issue with the label is that you have to compare a player to the peers playing at the same time.
While Arod is likely one of the best players playing now, I know 3 major things.
1) at the ripe old age of 31, his power years, he was not the first pick in any of mixed fantasy leagues OR my AL only leagues.
2) he never redefined how the game is played, he simply plays it at a higher level than most
3) he never won 80+ games as a pitcher.
Until there is a HUGE and clear cut difference between him and everyone else, he can not, by definition, be the best player of all time.
Let's use that now famous measure, OPS+, which compares the onbase plus slugging % of the player compared to the average.
For his career, he is 146. So, he is 46% better than the average player for the years he has played. Not bad.
(he is at 286 this year)
If a team of 9 Arods played on the same team, they would score 8.1 runs per game. Again, pretty decent measure.
OOOPS, Pujols, only 6 years into his career and not yet at prime would score 9.77 runs per game and has an OPS+ of 170.
But, that's not fair, he has only played 6 years.
Frank Thomas would score 8.76 runs per game and is 159 OPS+ for his career
Manny Ramirez scores 9.04 runs per game and is 157 for his career.
Finally, Bonds is 9.94 runs per game and 183 for his career.
Babe Ruth is 12.93 runs per game and 207 for his career.
Babe Ruths career OPS+ is better than AROD's single season high.
So, not only is Arod not the best player of all time, he is not even tops of the players in the league not, not tops in his own league, not even tops in his division.
Both Boston and Toronto have a players that, compared to their peers, produced better than AROD.
So, ahh, I am going to have to veto the parade for now. Let's see him hit the 1000 before we give him his belt.
Are the lakers going to get out of the 1 round?
Come on. First of all, its debatable whether A-Rod is even the best player currently playing, much less of all time. Second, even if he's "on pace" to hit 1,000 homers, which seems like a bit of an exaggeration, it doesn't mean a thing. Chris Shelton was "on pace" to hit 142 homers at one point last season, and he finished his season in the minor leagues. On top of that, A-Rod is a mediocre fielder at best. In my opinion, the most complete, "5-tool" (hit for power, hit for average, speed, defense, arm) player of all time was Willie Mays. Don't get me wrong, A-Rod is a very talented player. Best of all time? Not so much.no
1.babe Ruth
2.Derek jeter
3.David Ortiz
4.hank Aaron
5.Manny Ramirez
Tv schedulefor kansas city royals?
I don't think he's quite on pace to hit 1000 HR's, but I do think he has to be in the arguement. A SS/3B who has that kind of power. Then add in his speed. He's not as clutch as he could be and his defense isn't what it used to be... but for his bat, I'd trade those two small factors. Is Barry Bonds the bad guy simply because he shunned the media?
He's not the best player in history, but he can be. He has the potential to break all the records. Ruth might be the best ever because me wasn't a weight lifter, didn't take "supplements" and was a great pitcher that was a better hitter. It sounds like lots of people are bitter because he doesn't play for their team.no second after jose reyes
What native of Hamilton, Ontario, broke into the majors as a 17-year-old shortstop?
No, A-Rod isn't the best. I would be lying if I said he wasn't one of the best players out there. The best baseball player ever, I think, is definately Mickey Mantle.Who was the most intimidating pitcher of all time?
no ever hear of babe ruth. if babe didn't pitch for the first six years of his career he too would have over 1000 home runs. remember he was a great pitcher too.Who is your favorite MLB announcer, not local?
In American sports, The Yanks are definitely the most storied franchise. Yes, a Yankee is the best ever. No, not A-Rod or Jeter, it's Babe Ruth.Do you the cubs just have a normal win streak going? or is this the sign of a magical season?
THE YANKEES R THE BEST TEAM ALL AROUND IN BASEBALL AND BABE RUTH, JOE DIMAGGIO, MICKEY MANTLE R THE BEST THERE EVER WERE, SURE AROD IS AWESOME BUT THESE GUYS R BETTER. OF COURSE GO YANKEES!!!!More Questions & Answers...
