Well as an indians fan we did give him a respectable offer but he had a history of back problems. What a surprise this came up when he was with the Phillies and he missed alot of games with them. Anyway we ended up getting Hafner in a trade so i dont really care about Thome. Thome had this big speech and said that his wife was his rock meaning that his wife made some of the decision to go to Philly cause it was more money. Thats why hes booed in my opinion. Trust me last year was Thomes best year outside an Indians uniform and what a surprise hes on the DL right now.They have not been able to keep any of their stars because they go for the big money (see Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez) and thought Jim Thome would be different. He said he wanted to stay in Cleveland, but bolted for Philadelphia because they offered him a million or two more a year (like it matters when you make as much as he does).

Stupid Cleveland offered him a low amount of money. This was when they were selling off the team to start over with young players. So when they made no attempt to match the Phills offer, he left. He had no real history of injuries at this point either, only a history of hitting the cover off the ball.So how do the fans treat him when he comes back to town - they boo him! Anyone who knows of Jim Thome knows that he is probably the nicest guy in baseball. He donates time and money to many causes. He left because Cleveland did not want him. And they boo him.
That is why Cleveland will never be seen as a great sports town.
