You are forgetting Tommie Agee, who always played sans steroids.

Does anyone have information on a la dodger penant with don drysdale on it, circa 1960's. thanks?

best catcher on the mets maybe

def not the best met

What are some good softball cheers?

I love Piazza, but what about Keith Hernandez?

A couple years ago when Randy Johnson hit that bird when he was pitching, what was that pitch scored?

I have to say Dwight Gooden before his drug problems.
From 1984 to 1992 he never lost more than 9 games.

1984-NL-ROY
1985-NL-Cy Young
1985-NL-Triple Crown

Hitting help! please help!?

No way you got Doc Gooden, Tom Seaver, Fred McGriff I guess possibly the best offensive player but idk

Is there any value to old baseball media guides?

Considering he is one of the worse fielding catchers of all time I will assume that you mean batting exclusively. However, that begs the question, "How can Piazza be the greatest Met?"

Keith Hernandez certainly has to be considered on an overall level. In the box or on the field he could do it all. The same can be said for, Robin Ventura, Edgardo Alphonso, John Olerud, and Dwight Gooden. Yes, the 20 game winner who actually PINCHED HIT for a player and often pinch ran as well. But, I think we can assume that you are not including pitchers.

Piazza was indeed a great player for the New York Mets, but I don't think we can definitavely say he was the best ever.

How many MLB pitchers were clocked at 100mph last year, in the whole league?

No, not even close. Tom Seaver was the best Met player of all time. Already in the Hall of Fame, Seaver was one of the best pitchers (or player) of his generation. He helped transform the Mets from a laughingstock to a World Series champion.

Although Piazza was a great offensive player, he had serious difficulties playing the field. Futhermore, his best playing days were with the Dodgers not with the Mets.

With clemens back with the yankees, how do you think the development of phil hughes will be affected?

Depends on what you mean. Best player to ever wear a Mets uniform at some point in his career? Best player to be a Met for longer than he played for any other team (ie, primarily a Met)? Or best player, based only upon games while in a Met uniform?

For #1, I'd say it's between him, Tom Seaver, Warren Spahn, Pedro Martinez and Rickey Henderson. I think Piazza's the best catcher in MLB history -- average-to-poor defensively, of course, but with a bat that makes up for it in spades. Seaver and Spahn aren't in the top four or five all-time at pitcher and Pedro might end up there, but needs a strong finish to his career. But Rickey is truly, unbelievably great. He's not the greatest LF in history (Bonds and Williams), but the competition there is much stronger than at catcher. I think I have to give the nod to Henderson, by a nose. Of course, Piazza isn't finished yet.

For #2, it's an easier determination. Henderson, Spahn, and Martinez are out. I think Piazza's a pretty easy choice over Seaver.

For #3, though, Seaver passes Piazza, since he played more of his career for the Mets. Maybe Piazza will get traded back to the Mets, though. :-)

People of Columbus, (and middle Ohio)?

Gooden. Tom Seaver was a overrated work horse. He was a Met for 10 years and not an entire career as you try and make it sound.

When Gooden took the mound it was a win.

Who was the greatest leadoff man in the major leagues from the year 1993 to 2007?

You kidding me? Piazza wasn't even the best CATCHER in Mets history. Does the name Gary Carter ring a bell?

As for the best Met ever, I'm guessing you also forgot about the league's all-time strikeout and no-hitter leader, Nolan Ryan.

Which player was named the Canadian baseball player of the half-century in 1950?

It's easy to say Seaver because he's in the hall of fame but Gooden was just as dominate in his 10 years with the Mets and was far more intimidating to hitters.

I have to say Godden as well. His drug problem doesn't concern me.

Who will win the world series this year?

No. That would have to be Tom Terrific-Tom Seaver.

Without using Yankees or Red Sox.?

I have been a Mets fan since 1968. Mike Piazza had an enormouse impact on the Mets, but we pretty much got him as his abilities peaked. Although he is the greatest power-hitting catcher ever, there are several more complete catchers among contemporaries, such as Ivan Rodriguez. I love Mike, but there is at least one N.Y. Mets player that was far and away better with the Mets: None other than Tom Terrific -- Tom Seaver. He was the main reason the Mets went from jokes to World Champions. His best years were with the Mets, and he is probably one of the 5 or 10 greatest right handed pitchers of all time. Heck, he even hit pretty well. Piazza was the best Met of his era, but Seaver tops them all, based on contributions to the team.

Tips for teaching a 7 year old boy to play baseball?

Tom Seaver is the best Met ever by far. But if you wanna talk hitters it's tough. Piazza in his tenure with the Mets hit 197 HR and had 579 RBI but his batting average suffered compared to when he was in LA, particularly his last 2 seasons with the Mets where he hit a lowly .266 in 2004 and .251 in 2005.

I'd go with Darryl Strawberry. In his Met career from 1983-1990, he hit 252 HR and had 733 RBIs. He also was one of the greatest power hitters of the 80's and was just intimidating to opposing pitchers. People feared Straw and knew at any moment, he could hit a 450 bomb off the scoreboard and make you look bad. He also could run the bases very well in his early days (191 stolen bases with the Mets) and had a good throwing arm, unlike Piazza who had a terrible arm and could never throw out a basestealer if his life depended on it. Piazza is a lock for the hall of fame unlike Straw, but if you wanna talk about best Met ever while playing for the Mets, you gotta go with Darryl Strawberry! Otherwise, Willie Mays and Nolan Ryan are the greatest Mets ever since they at one time did play for the Mets.

Who is or was?

It's between him and Tom Seaver

What teams will make the playoffs this year?

I believe so.

If the catcher throws the ball back over the pitcher's head, can the batter go to first?

Tom Seaver was the franchise, and actually won a World Series ring. I also think an argument can be made that Darryl Strawberry was better than Piazza, even though it might not be fair to compare a catcher with a right fielder. Piazza had some tough years towards the end power wise, while Strawberry's best home run year was his last in 1990. If Strawberry had not gone to Los Angeles and gotten in trouble with his hometown buddies, he would be a hall of famer, and would have hit 500 or 600 homeruns easily.

Has there ever been a player in MLB history who had 4 or 5 homeruns in a game?

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned quite possibly the greatest player of all time, let alone the Mets. Doesn't anybody remember a guy named Willie Mays. I'd have to disagree with anyone who would rate the Straw or any of the guy mentioned, Only Seaver could be put in Mays's class

Why does Los Angeles have two baseball teams? Angels and Dodgers?

You do know Nolan Ryan was once a Met, right?

When Will The Red Sox Win Another World Series?

My question to you is what are you basing your opinion on other than the fact that you've obviously seen Piazza play all most everyday in NY? What about the Mets players of the of the not-so recent past like Tom Seaver (as others here have mentioned) that are all ready in the hall of fame?

Not to take anything away from Piazza, but I wonder how well have you consider the Mets players who played before Mike Piazza's time in NY.
