Has there ever been an MLB pitcher who could pitch either left- or right-handed?

Question:I just thought that maybe since there are switch-hitters there might have been a pitcher somewhere who could pitch with either arm.

What constitutes a "save oppurtunity" in baseball?

Two ambidextrous pitchers have each pitched with both hands in a game.

The ambidextrous Greg Harris did pitch left-handed
once, while with the Expos, and in a home game. Do
you remember the area behind the plate at The Big O,
the area with the glass? On his first left-handed
pitch in the majors, Harris was a bit wild, and broke
that glass.

Harris was not the first man to pitch with both arms
in the major leagues, but he was the first in the
"modern" era. This is the entry from the 1st edition
of "Total Baseball"

July 18, 1882
Ambidextrous hurler Tony Mullane of Louisville pitches
with both hands in a major league game at Baltimore.
Normally a righthander, Mullane switches to the left
hand in the fourth inning. He does quite well for
several innings but eventually loses to Baltimore,
9-8.

How 'bout them Yankees?

no

Buy or Sell on Oliver Perez sucess this season so far?

absolutely! i have this really good baseball book and it showed a picture of a baseball glove that had 6 fingers because the pitcher who used it could pitch both ways, so he could put the glove on either hand. i can't remember his name, but i know for a fact there has been.

Just How Good Is Brian McCann of the Atlanta Braves?

Yes, everyone can, but the pitch would be a whole lot slower

Does anyone know how much the redsox traded Babe Ruth for to the Yankees?

No, but there have been pitchers who threw right handed in high school then in college learned how to throw left handed and pitched left handed in the majors. I guess they could throw with both hands. Jim Abbot only had one hand and he pitched. he even threw a no hitter.

In baseball..what is an automatic ball.and what is a pitchout?

Why did ppl spit on me when i wore a boston red sox hat 2 new york?

The best-known major league switch pitchers were Tony Mullane and Greg Harris. Mullane, who pitched in the 1880s and '90s, wore no glove and would face the batter with both hands on the ball before throwing it with either one. Harris, using both arms, pitched one inning of scoreless relief for the Montreal Expos on Sept. 28, 1995.

This is from an article about a pitcher from Creighton University that is ambidextrous as well.

Harris is the only known person to throw with both arms in a game in since the 1800's.

Another interesting fact is that the Mets closer, Billy Wagner, is right handed. He started throwing left handed as a kid after breaking his right arm.

Where could I find out what a rare sports 8mm movie is worth?

I think every pitcher throws either right or left. What else is there?

Will St. Louis (the best team in mlb in my perspective) be able to win the world series this year again?

Softball is not a waste of time??Is it??

Yes, there have been ambidexterous pitchers in the majors.

Did anyone hear Curt Schilling's sour grapes after Clemens joined the Yankees?

Three years ago, reliever Randy Flores came up from the minors right-handed. Now, he is one of the most dominant lefty, late-inning reliever in the game.

Has There Ever Been a 3-2-1 Double Play?

There's a collegiate pitcher who plays for Creighton, Pat Venditte , that can do it... Scouts are watching him, right now. It's a good value if he's effective with both arms, because it's like you're getting 2 arms for one... The only catch...

Umpires working Creighton's games have to dust off seldom-used rules regarding switch-pitchers. Like everyone else, Venditte gets only eight warmup pitches upon entering a game and five before any inning, whether he chooses to throw left-handed or right-handed, and may not warm up again if he changes arms mid inning.

A switch-pitcher facing a switch-hitter could make a fine Abbott and Costello routine. Against Nebraska in 2006, a switch-hitter came to the plate right-handed, prompting Venditte to switch to his right arm, which caused the batter to move to the left-hand batter's box, with Venditte switching his arm again. Umpires ultimately restored order, applying the rule (the same as that in the majors) that a pitcher must declare which arm he will use before throwing his first pitch and cannot change before the at-bat ends.

Interesting fact... Billy Wagner, closer for the Mets, is actually right handed... He only learned to throw left handed after a series of breaks to his right arm during his college football days. With his left arm, Wagner has become one of the most dominate closers in the game, routinely hitting 99-100 MPH on the radar gun.
