i'm not really sure what the average is but when i was in high school and played varsity most of our pitchers were between 75 and 85. mine was 87 but there was a team we played that had a junior that threw a 93 consistently. it just really all depends. at the beginning of the season you're likely to be slower unless you throw all winter.Do you think A-Rod with be the MVP this year?

I really don,t think there is any definitive answer to this question .It all depends on the area of the country ,Population is important, the more athletes you have the greater chance you are going to have someone who can bring it!! I pitched in High school,And I batted against the hardest throwers,In my experience ,It would vary from team to team,I could only estimate the average speed to be about 75 to 85 miles per hr occasionally you would see a freak who would throw 85 to 90,s +Who are the Oakland Athletics adversary?

Low to mid 80's.What baseball parks would you say are the easiest and hardest to hit inside the park home runs in?
If you account for all varsity high school programs, I'd say probably 65-75mph for their hardest stuff.Realize, you hear about HS pitchers throwing 80+ mph, it's unusual. That's why you hear about these very few. If you average all HS pitchers and remember they don't throw with a maximum effort fastball every pitch unless they are closers, then people won't say 80+ mph.
My ex-college roommate pitched in college and he topped out in the 70s.
I'd say less than 1% of HS pitchers top out in the 90s, probably another 10% (that's 1 in 10 or one guy on the entire pitching staff) in the 80s and the rest below.
