Can you named a great pitcher the was never a closer or starter?

Question:I can only think or one, i will tell you my answer after i select the best answer.
He pitch in a lot of games and he was actually a closer for a while.
So if you can name a pitche the was closer for a few season is ok.
But dont select somebody the has always being a closer of half or his career he was a closer.

There are a couple of relievers that have had long careers without primarily being a closer and not being a starter.

Jesse Orosco, Mike Stanton, Paul Quantril all are these types of players.

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'great' is.

My guess is that you are thinking of Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm. He was a knuckleballer that pitched in relief almost his entire career. He holds the MLB record for wins out of the bullpen. Saves wasn't really a category they kept good stats on when he was pitching, so I've seen him credited with anywhere between 30 and 230 saves.
