Does anyone other than Jackie Robinson deserve a day of respect by the baseball community?
Question:I understand that Jackie Robinson Day was something special because of the significance of the man and the racism and hatred he overcame, but with all due respect, (and I have tons of respect for the man and his ideals), I would also like to see some acknowlegement shown by major league baseball to others who faced the same racism, who stood up and overcame hatred to help bring change.
I'll name three right off the top of my head:
Larry Doby who was in the same situation as Robinson, and if Mr. Robinson was #1 then Doby was #1A.
How about Hank Greenberg? How did the world feel about people of Jewish descent at the time he began his career?
Finally, Roberto Clemente who helped to change the stereotypes of Americans toward players of Hispanic descent.
I'd like to see much more done in that regard, and I believe in my heart that Jackie Robinson would agree 100%, and I also agree that the work is far from finished.

Does anybody know the sizes of some MLB baseball players feet?
How bout not just including minority players who have changed the game, but all players that have done something to make baseball greater.I have great respect for any man who accomplishes, no matter his race.
What was the Chicago White Sox all-time won-loss record at old Comiskey Park?
if anyone it's roberto clemente. such a great humanitarian and great person. MLB like jackie have named an award after him. that's nice, but a roberto clemente day would be great. not sure about retiring number 21 throughout baseball though. jackie is his own level as far as his importance to the game.Do you think Ichiro is overrated?
Roberto Clemente, forget changing stereotypes, remember he also died in a plane crash personally bringing aid to earthquake victims. In this day and age you are lucky to get people to sign the checks never mind personally delivering the aid to third world countries.
Who will win the series? cubs? sox?
Roberto Clemente, and that is it. No body else.If a closer enters the 9th with a 4 run lead and gives up 1 run before he wins is it ruled a save?
Roberto Clemente deserves to be honored, he died doing a humanitarian deed. The man was a great person who gave his life when he could have opted out of accompanying supplies to a devastated area.I've always wondered why batters staired the crap out of pitchers after they get struck out...?
I was thinking about this too during all the festivities on Jackie Robinson Day. The only name I could come up with was Roberto Clemente also. I don't think many young kids even know who he is.How many left handed batters would you have in your lineup on a regular basis on average?
The obvious choice is Branch Rickey. It was Branch Rickey and the Dodger organization that had the moral courage to break the color line. Any number of black players could have sucessfully filled the role of being the first including Larrry Dolby and Roy Campenella But how many suits would have had the nads to do what Rickey did ?So I vote for Branch Rickey
