More than just the stats it has to be the ability of A-Rod to get those key hits like he did the other day against the O's. Take last year for example. He had excellent numbers but most of those number were accumulated either after the Yankees were up or down but substantial margins. If he had gained most of those numbers during key moments during those games I'm sure the fans would not have come down on him like they did.He has to prove that he is a money player. A guy who will come through when it counts. If he can do that he will win over the fans like no other.
I don't think so mainly because he plays in New York. To have that kind of scrutiny on a daily basis is tough, and it's worse on A-Rod because of the high expectations already placed on him. He will go into a slump, like all players do, and the media and Yankee fans will hate on him again. A-Rod seems to handle it all well, but it's still extra weight put on the already tough grind. Plus that record will be tough to get. 78 is a lot of homeruns to hit in one season.
