Who remembers Pete Rose? I use to be able to pay to attend a game and have a hot dog too.?
I pitched until I was 18, so I can give you just examples of how I approached Opening Days. Since it looks like you hit top speed with your 4-seam, I would work that early, then look change, then the splitter. That type of pattern. I can only assume you have a basic idea by looking at the batter if he can rip a HR or not, so be smart in how you set them up. If they are power hitters, work on off-speed to get them way in front. Once you set them in that direction, blow one past them, best to keep it inside and/or low. Use that 2-seamer to paint corners, since it doesn't move as much as the 4-seam, which I would use when I was ahead of the count (1-2 or 0-2) since it was fast with movement and made them chase a lot.Best of luck on that knuckler, I tried it for a bit but could never get it to go even close to fast enough to be usable in a game. I did however, do well with the circle-change. Not sure if that's what you are using (for what you listed as a changeup), but that's a great money pitch too. As you get older, look at setting the curve or slider into your selection.
Best of luck on Opening Day!
What food if any can you bring in baseball stadiums?
Low and in and low and away. Don't give them anything they can drive. You seem like a good pitcher. Is this Middle School ball? My Opening Day is Tuesday, but I start Outfield. We went 0-14 or something last year. Meh, this is my last year of Middle School baseball. I'm 13 as well.
The only thing I'd be worried about is getting out-pitched. The team we're playing Tuesday has a pitcher who does pitch 70MPH. Not an impossible feat to hit..but it's a little intimidating, when we have the smallest team in the conference -.-.
Make sure to keep it low. You don't want them to hit a lot of line drive singles and doubles. I'd say you have more people able to catch balls on the ground at the age of 13 than in the air.
Good luck, nevertheless. Don't panic. Don't get frusterated. Just play your game. If you don't get them this start, go out next start and give it your best again. If this keeps happening...take up another position! :P
I pitch and know how hard it can be. Just try to keep it low, no waist high fastballs they can jack. Mix up pitchs to keep them off balance. For example if they are siting fastball mix it up with a change or something. Also I would keep it to 4 pitches or else it gets to confusing for your coach and catcher. Hope this helps!
i think for your age the following:
1. your 4 seam fastball is decent-to above average. im 14 and i throw 72 but that is above averge. i was throwing 66 right when i turned 14 so your fine with that pitch.
2. your 2 seam fastball is okay. you may want to develop more velocity for it considering many 13 year old kids (assuming this is travel) are used to facing 65-70 mph fastballs. throwing 55 may get hit out of the yard.
3. if your changeup is goeing 40 mph it could be good or bad. you have to make sure you are gripping the ball with 3 fingers and putting it back in your hand. you have to throw a change withj fastball arm speed but it will go slower. if your just throwing a little slower and not having fast arm action that ball is goimg 500 feet. if youe doing it correct iot should be affective.
4. a spliter is not supposed to drop 3 feet. the best curveball ever can only drop one and a half feet. three feet is 36 inches.
a splitter should be thrown fast and drop in the vicinity of 3-6 inches. 8 if youre good.
5. dony work ona knuckleball until you have a curve. trust me on this. in the next year curves will get to be very important.
as for placement: throw fastballs inside outside and high to get them to chase. low or middle if you need a strike.
keep any breaking poitches down and awy. inside and hanging changeups are a hitters best friend. good luck and remember throw strikes!
i'm 13 and playing baseball with the guys @ my school. yea i kno a girl? but yea, wat my skool does right before da game is give the pitcher positive sayings n stuff and tell him 2 feel the game and we sing his favorite song 2 get him in the mood. so feel it and pitch the way you want. good luck!
Who's Hotter Sox fans OR Cubs fans?
Throw high and tight when you are ahead in the count, then get the outside corner on the next pitch. You do not throw fast enough yet to throw a knuckle or change up. Hitters your age are simple read and react hitters, so the arm action with a slower pitch will not work like it does in college and the majors. When your fastball reaches the 80s and your change up is 65-70, then you can use it somewhat effectively. Until then, stick with the fastball and try to develop a curve. PS I seriously doubt your splitter breaks 3 feet. You dont throw hard enough to get that kind of break on a ball yet. It's the speed of the ball and the wind pushing the laces that creates a true break on the ball. Unless you are playing whiffle ball.
Is fransico liriano going to be like kerry wood and blow his arm off??
Inside on the hands...mix it up with the changeup for some offspeed stuff.More Questions & Answers...
