First off, always keep a ball in the pocket when not using it. I've done a few different things including wrapping a ball in it as tight as I can with elastic bands/string. I've had a car backed over my catcher's mitt. But the best way, really, is to use the glove. Play catch whenever you can with it. That will work the glove in the way you like it.
