Fastball/changeups. And maybe a curveball. Anything else might be a little much for their arm.And no use in learning a knuckleball now...
What should I do after being benched?
strictly a fastball since throwing a baseball is an awkward motion you don't want them screwing up their arm at an early age. If he starts throwing curve balls and sliders now then later he will have problems with his arm and it may ultimately lead to surgeryCan we stick a fork in the N.Y.Yankees...are they done this early in the season?
If you start teaching him to curve, slide, or cut, it will hurt him in the long run. The human body is not designed to throw a ball 90MPH, and a 10yo kids arm is not designed to throw trick pitches like a curve. It can mess up his muscle growth and structure and will have a generally weaker arm as he ages. This is the one thing I stress as a little league coach.
A kid should start learning trick pitched by the time he is in high school. For 10 year olds, fastballs. You can change it up by using a split finger, two-seam (cross or with stitches), and a change-up. Stay away from the curves, cutters, and sliders till high school come around.
There are only two that they should be throwing in games. Thats a fastball and a changeup. Their arms are not yet devoloped enough to throw breaking pitches. I've never seen something like this... but a knuckleball would be safe for an arm that young because the motions are the same... just different grips.
Fastball. Stick to that one pitch and don't worry about anything else at that young age. Beyond the possibility that exotic pitches can put extra strain on arms when thrown improperly (even changeups can alter the pitching motion and cause injury), another reason to stick to the fastball is for development purposes.
All other pitches can learned later on, but a fastball must be developed. Improvements in techniques can improve a pticher's velocity, but speed can only be developed, it can't really be taught.
Fastball
Is it possible for me, a Yankee fan, to ever have a chance dating a Red Sox or Detroit fan?
At that age just a 4 seam fastball and a straight changeup. Nothing fancy. Thats way too young to be throwing anything with any kind of wrist movement. Can someone explain the waiver wire to me!?
Fastballs, fastballs and more fastballs. No one, NO ONE, should ever try to throw anything but fastballs until the growth plates in their arms have closed. That can only be detected by a doctor, reading an x-ray.
What web site can i find the value of my baseball and football trading cards?
Fastball, and change up if he learns to throw a curve ball than he will want to throw it more often and his arm is not ready for that.Who's the greatest baseball player most baseball fans have never even heard of?
only a fastball (mainly 4-seam due to the fact that a 9 year old cant throw a 2 seam fast enough for any movement) and or a changeup. sliders can destroy elbows when too young. same with cut faastballs. and curveballs shouldnt be taught until about 15 due to wrist and shoulder injury risks. besides, those three pitches would do no good because you would have to throw at least 70-80 mph for a slider/ cut fastball to have any movement.. and a curve is just not feasible. What are some steps I can take to ensure that my son becomes a great baseball player?
Fastball and change up. Nothing else or you'll hurt your arm. Focus on throwing strikes and changing speeds. You'll learn everything else later.Whats the worth on Leo Durocher, Warren Spahn auto baseballs?
Fastballs only. Maybe you can help them with a change, but definitely NOT a curveball. What 9 and 10 year olds need to do is to strengthen their arms, and throwing a curveball will more than likely damage their arm and elbow, especially if the child doesn't have a good teacher/coach to help them learn how to throw the curve.More Questions & Answers...
