yes, it is the best rivalry in sports.michigan vs ohio state is a great rivaly but i dont see how it could be the best. for one, it's a college rivalry, no players are going to be part of it for more than 4 years. there's plenty of red sox and yankee players who have been on their respective teams for over 4 years.
more people will watch a yankees vs red sox playoff game than any college bowl game. the regular season and post-season games are all highly televised, every sports media outlet goes on and on about it when the teams are playing each other. tickets to every game they play between each other is sold out every year. there are riots win or loose when it comes playoff time.
as for the lakers and celtics being a good rivaly. maybe 20 years ago, but as long as the celtics are the least popular team in boston i don't see how anyone can consider it a rivalry.

I'm a CA guy and I think that it is the biggest and best rivalry. A lot of that though has to do with the deep and rich history of the 2 franchises.
