How to hit a slow pitch softball?
Question:I am 32 years old and going to play slow pitch for second time in my life .The first time it seemed like i was putting more of aback spin on the ball.I think i was trying to hit the ball to hard. If this helps i'm 5'9 195pounds.PLEASE HELP!

I ran into the same problem a couple of years ago. The best advise I recieved is as follows:1. Level swing, no uppercutting.
2.Bat speed is more important than how hard you hit the... if that makes any sense.

I played slow pitch softball for 22 years.. don't try to go with the power of your shoulders . it is all in the wrists... that is where your power is going to come from... the arms and the shoulders... just help to give it the extra edge...Don't pay so much attention to the spin... when in starts the desent over the plate.. and makes that quick drop... that when you need to be ready to swing... on a one two count. works like a charm..

be patient. wait for the ball to come down to you. don't try to kill the ball. a nice flick of the bat can dump the ball over the outfielders and in front of the infielders.1. Swing down on the ball (tomahawk it), uppercutting in slow pitch softball will either make you pop it up or ground out.
2. As someone above said, your power is in your wrists, you don't need to use a big swing, short compact swing, use batspeed and wrists for power.
3. You can stand in the back of the box and take a couple steps forward as you hit the ball to put some momentum into the hit.
Stand deep in the box- with your back foot on the back line
Hit the ball on the way down while stridiing into it.

My advice to you is to go to the batting cages and practice. I have been playing softball for 28 years now both fast and slow pitch. I bat clean up in both. There is a lot of information we can find on the internet, but batting is nothing that you can be told how to do, it is something that takes practice. You have to feel comfortable, and get your timing down. At least you are hitting the ball, and as far as your size and weight that does not make a difference either I played with a girl who was about 5ft tall and might have weighed 100 pounds soaking wet and she could crank the ball out as well and far as the bigger girls. The hardest thing is waiting on the pitch. I had that problem when I first started playing. I would suggest starting with an open stance so all your weight is on your back foot. This way it takes a little more time and helps you wait on the ball.Will Roger Clemens realy help the Yankees?
Take your time. Wait for the ball to come to you and have a quick swing.Even a small blooper of a hit can win the game! Don't worry about hitting it too hard!
What do people think about bamboo baseball bats?
I have had good luck getting pointers from softball 360. I changed my grip in the middle of last years season and had immediate results. I used to hold the bat the way I was taught as a kid and even choke up a little. Now I have moved my hands down so far that my left hand (I bat right) has only my index and middle finger wrapped around the bat. I also worked on my bat speed last year. The faster you can swing the better. With a little pratice I was hitting where ever I wanted.More Questions & Answers...
