First of all during the era that Aaron was playing was probably the most difficult era to play in besides when Jackie played. While there is no doubt that Hank is not a coward I would suspect that your quote is taken out of context and was not intend as you portrayed it. Everyone of us has done cowardly things from time to time, sometimes selfish other times out of fear that doesn't make us cowards and I doubt that writer was addressing Hank's character but more a specific act. That writer is entitled to an opinion and we are entitled to disregard him.If this statement came as a result of Hank's refusal to attend of comment on the pending fall of his record, that is a selfish cowardly act but Hank is not a coward. Hank owes a lot to baseball and regardless of the trial and tribulations he faced he should show enough class to congratulate anyone, even Bonds, on breaking his record.

I think Jay Mariotti of the Chicago SunTime says stupid things to draw attention to himself. But I think this guy is just speaking his mind and saying what he believes. I don't think Aaron has to say anything about his record being broken, since it has nothing to do with anyone but Hank. So I think the writer is wrong.
