Why does the baseball pitchers get all the credit when it's the catcher that tells him what to throw.?

Play off Prediction?

You bring up a good point since Beckett proved last year that pitching is only 50% of the battle.
What makes hitting a baseball hard is the change in speeds and location. Without these variances the pitcher would get rocked constantly.
With a catcher like Jason Varitek I would give him 40% of the credit with 60% going to the pitcher. Most catchers are not as good as Tek tho and the % would drop dramatically.
The pitcher can completely screw this up by having an off day tho.

Will we ever see these Players play in the Majors again ?

Are you serious? I admit the catcher has to be smart but the pitcher has to perform. Like writers and actors. Why are writers writers? They can't act!

What the heck happened to He Sop Choi??

That's called calling the game, the catcher calls the game, but the pitcher can shake off his sign whenever he wants. And the pitcher is pitching the pitches so, the pitcher should get the credit. Oh and ya know Jorge Posada doesn't even call his own game, Ron Gidry (the pitching coach) gives him the signs from the dugout.

Got any good stories about the 1983 orioles?

A catcher can tell the pitcher what to throw but its up to the pitcher to execute the pitch. Besides...sometimes the game is being called from inside the dugout (manager) or the pitcher will shake off a sign the catcher has given him.

What does holds(for pitching) mean in fantasy baseball ?

Sean P is totally correct.

Is it true that Jerry Reinsrorf is going to buy The Cubs?

lol.this is too funny...its the kind of stuff i come up with when i can't sleep. but its true, a catcher can tell by the stance of the batter how he might hit the ball, so he has to tell the pitcher how to avoid getting a hit. And usually pitchers and catchers work together alot during practice, and whenever needed, a pitcher can catch and a catcher might be able to pitch.

Who do you think will win the NL East?

Because even if the catcher calls a great series of pitches, it is up to the pitcher to make sure the ball goes where he wants it, at the speed he wants it, when he wants it. The catcher can call a low, inside, curveball but if the pitcher doesn't get it there, what's the point?

Giants or Marlins?

IMO,it's up to the pitcher to be able to execute the pitch. Although the catcher as well as the other positions should share the credits, the pitcher is like the team leader.

Why didn't the Giants go after Matsuzaka in the preseason?

I would argue that the catcher deserves some credit, and gets it from time to time. Varitek is well respected as a great pitch caller. But just because a catcher calls the pitches, doesn't end it all, the pitcher still has to throw it in there. Plus the pitcher can refuse the call and go with another pitch, so even though the catcher makes the calls, it is usually inline with what the pitcher wants to do anyway. IMO.

Did the cubs beat the reds at todays game?

A catcher can tell me what pitch to throw and I will follow his instructions perfectly. I doubt I would ever throw a strike, let alone get a batter out.

Enough said.

Who do you think has the best chance to win the world series?

I don't know, but it really bugs me too. I play catcher and when the pitcher throws a good pitch and gets congratulated for it, I'm like, "Well, I told him to throw the pitch. Doesn't that count for anything?" But it might be because they could very easily mess up on the pitch, so it is good that they threw the pitch good. Thats what I think, but other people probably have better answers than me. And i have a question. What does IMO mean?

Would you rather be a HR king or a Avg. God?

the catcher isn't pitching it, just telling him what is the best pitch.

I need help with my slow pitch softball bat swing!?

You have a point in that the catcher deserves a lot more credit than he gets, but ultimately the pitcher has to perform. The pitcher still has to throw quality pitches.

Would you share your money?

hmmm ummm idk maybe because the pitcher has 2 um THROW. just because the catcher tells the pitcher 2 throw the pitch, dosen't mean he is gonna throw it.
