i am a mother, and i found that age 5 is a good time to introduce items such as baseball gloves, books, and even musical instruments. At age 4 they still dont have much of an attention span and are only interested in things that give them instant gratification like things that spin, make noise, and produce groovy colors and even then they get bored with those in a very short time span. But at age 5 they sepearate more from mamas apron string and become more like little men and have an interest in things men like to do. yea, 5 is a good age.Buy it for him as soon as possible, but don't force it on him. Let him play with it on his own when he wants to. If he shows interest in it on his own, then he'll continue wanting to play with it. If you force it on him, he'll get pissed or annoyed and not ever want to play with it again. And that would be an unimaginable crime...
