Rolen grounded out into double play, when the bases were loaded and only had one out.
The Card's bullpen isn't as good this year as they moved Wainwright and Looper to the rotation.

they have a top 3 offense, the pitching isn't half as bad as espn would make you believe...

I am a big Cardinals fan and I only had 2 real concerns.
1. Chris Carpenter was struggling to find control.
2. So Taguchi looked Horrible in left field!
Otherwise, there hitting has always been sketchy and streaky. They come around when they need to.
The Mets won the most games in the NL last year and we all know what ended up happening.
Conclusions, fellow Cardinals fans don't fret... the Cubs are still the Cubs so the division is ours.
I think very little of it. The teams match up very well. Both teams hit fairly well. The difference was this: An error on So Taguchi cost a couple of runs, and an outstanding play by Jose Reyes saved a couple of runs. Carpenter was not as sharp as usual, and Glavine was very good. Too hard to tell from one game - ask me in a couple of months - or at least wait til this mini-series is over.

I think the Cards had alot of oppurtunities to take advantage of the Metropolitans, but just could not. They had bases loaded TWICE and the Mets got a double play each time. When you have bases loaded, opening day, go for the run, not the grand slam. Throw em off with a bunt and see how well they play that. Before we put the Mets in the World Series, and give the Cardinals 100 losses, remember it was the first game of the season. They can't go 162-0, and the Mets are a good team. What was shocking was that the Mets scored 6 runs like they did.The Mets are highly motivated and they're hungry for more. Getting so close to the WS last season and having the Cards partying at Shea like they did last season were more than enough to motivate them. You could tell that they're ready to turn the page and eager to get out there and show everyone what they got. I'm not saying that the Cards were taking it easy on Opening Day. They came close a few times to tying the game and even outscore the Mets but the Mets outdefended, outscored and outplayed them. I also think that the Mets wanted Opening Day to be somesort of a revenge to the Cards even though they said that it's not.

Carpenter was suprisingly off that night. the cards bullpen did fantastic and the hitting was ok they just had some tough breaks like when eckstein got thrown out at home and then later on in the inning rolen lined out with the bases loaded to end the inning. if eckstein scores, the cards would have had more opportunities to put runs on the board.Which MLB team will finish DEAD LAST?
