Question for men who play slowpitch softball?
Question:Have you seen any pitchers wearing a face mask, with the type of bats on the market the game is getting dangerous
Answers:
Not in any of my leagues.
with pitches coming in so slow, the pitcher has plenty of reaction time to guard his face after the pitch, so it's not necessary...
Can I exchange my bat somewhere?
I've never seen it personally. However, I live in Upstate New York and they have now banned all composite bats from the league. All bats must be aluminum. Anyone violating this rule will be removed from the league for a minimum of two years. It had to be done. Even with the great bats out there, the majority of teams were having their bats 'shaved', making them even more dangerous. The things people do to try and win a city softball league. Kinda pathetic.Dodger Dog or Miller Park Brat?
Yes. Some of the guys in USSA, NSA, and ISF sometimes wear masks. These are leagues in which 120 MPH bats are used. This means that the ball can come off the bat at 120 MPH. The mound is typicaly 50 feet from home plate. That is not much time to react. ASA rules only allow 98 MPH bats. The pitcher wil have a little more time here. I have not seen a mask at ASA games yet. I'm sure someone will take one in the face from a composite bat and that will change and people will start to wear them.Whats the best trade in history ?
I have not seen pitchers wearing face masks... but I doubt it has anything to do with the bat.Someone with a sweet, powerful swing can send one back through the box as easy as someone who compensates for lack of power with an expensive bat.
I've seen inattentive third basemen get cheeks shattered from batted balls - the danger is 'always' there.
Those are just the risks you take being a pitcher - the game won't change. The same is the case in regular baseball.
..of course - right after the pitch - you can run away if you want.
Who is the oldest player to ever steal two bases in one game?
I've seen one guy wear a facemask. Its actually a catchers mask that he wears. 2 or 3 years ago he took a shot straight in the jaw while he was pitching, knocked him out cold and split his chin wide open. Hes worn one ever since. The guy that said you have plenty of reaction time obviously hasn't been a pitcher on a slow pitch softball team. I pitch and there have been times when the ball flew by me so fast you just hear it, you don't see it.More Questions & Answers...
