And throughout baseball - enhancement through drugs has always existed. 60-70's "uppers". For the Babe "beer and hot dogs" folks - few, if any drugs were illegal in the early 1900's, in fact cocaine was legal and abused by many. And testing wasn't possible. I am not claiming the Babe did drugs - I am stating we cannot compare the known testing and usage between the eras.
So we can only go with what we do know - and that is MLB encouraged the use by doing nothing for the all mighty dollar. It wasn't just the strike season in 94 - for years MLB supported the long ball, by lowering the mound, promoting marginal players with gaudy HR numbers - and .245 averages, no defensive skills , etc. Home runs sell tickets. Brady Anderson anyone?
I hate Bonds for the prick he is and when the scandal first came out - I wanted his head. "Flakseed oil..." its one thing to lie, its another to lie horribly. BUt as a die hard baseball fan all of my life - I can honestly say I do hope he gets it and will cheer him on that eventful day. We are not just talking about a sports "record" - we are talking about the most revered baseball record out there, bar none. INoreder to achieve this amount of HR's - 755+ for the amount of years played is simply amazing. And as I have mentioned - MLB had and has a large % of steroid, enhancement drug users for years.
So my brain tells me to boo, my heart tells me to cheer. I usually try to go with the latter...

I would. I think we have to acknowledge that someone from this generation is going to break Aaron's record and if it is Bonds, everyone can acknowledge it is simply a different era. I believe it would terribly naive to think that any of the great players of the past twenty years is beyond reproach on this issue and only a handful (eg Maddux, Glavine) who are likely clean. I would rather us feel certain that we should simply see the records and players differently then to choose a convenient, albeit worthy target in Bonds.We will need to start looking around (eg Clemens, Pudge, Tejada, Bagwell, Giles, etc) before we allow our collective anger toward Bonds to collectively blind us to the larger problem.

Even if he gets the record, there will still be people who dout that he did it without cheating. I personally think he cheated. He was so much smaller earlier in his career compared to now. Yes i do.I am a Dodger fan and still would like to see Bary break Aaron's record. Greatest player of all time HR, RBI, AVE, & SB lets not forget how many intential walks. with or with out steroids Bary is the best.

yeah, I want to see him break the record. I know alot of people dont cause of the whole steriods thing, but he was a heck of a player before he even started on the juice and most people dont realize that. To all you people who say he cheated, I want to know what rule did he break? When he was on the juice there was NO RULE in baseball that said you could not take these substances.
