When did Cubs fans lose their class?
1. Frank Robinson (only MVP in both leagues - Menace)2. Pete Rose (hitting machine)
3. Sandy Koufax (southpaw beauty - unmatched)
4. Willie Mays (5-star tools - could do it all)
5. Mickey Mantle/Hank Aaron (tied - iconic)
I didn't include players before the color barrier was broken or any from the steroid era.
(1) Ruth - The greatest hitter ever along with being an amazing pitcher for 5 years.
(2) Mays - The greatest 5 tool player ever.
(3) Wagner - Easily the greatest shortstop of all time and a hugely dominant player in his time.
(4) Williams - Ted, not Bernie. Challenges Ruth as the greatest hitter of all time. An amazing offensive force.
(5) Bonds - People will balk at this choice because of the steroids implications (publicly unproven), but Bonds is the greatest power/speed threat in the history of the game. Additionally, he is probably the best defensive left fielder ever.
Who was better in their prime Babe Ruth or Willie Mays?
MaysGriffey
Nolan Ryan
Rose
Bonds
What was Rod Carew's career batting average against Randy Johnson?
1) Ruth - He broke the single season record for home runs five times - four of which were already his records. There were some years in which Babe Ruth hit more home runs than entire teams. He was the best because he was so much better than everyone else in the league when he played that he'd compete with contemporaries. He also pitched for Boston and probably could have been a contender for the Cy Young award if they had the award existed back then.2) Ty Cobb - There's no doubt that he was a jerk. But when the first players were elected to the Hall of Fame, Cobb was at the top of the list - over Ruth. It's one thing to stick around baseball so long that you take the hitting title by default (Rose) it's quite another to hit .400 three times and over .350 sixteen times. That's not to mention that his .366 Batting Average is the highest in the history of baseball.
3) Willie Mays - He's the reason that the term "5-tool player" was invented. He could hit like Ruth but run like Cobb. He was the best mixture of Average, Power, Defense, Speed and Throwing ever. People who might say that Bonds is that - forget that Mays was a gold glove outfielder in Center Field - not Left. He was a team player that won the World Series. He didn't take steroids, and he didn't need to.
4) Walter Johnson - Big Train was the best pitcher ever. He struck guys out that didn't swing for the fences. They bunted to get on base. They shortened their swings all the time instead of only on two strikes. They slapped at the ball to simply put it in play - and he still struck out 1 guy an inning in his prime. He threw harder than anyone before him and with better control than anyone who threw hard after him.
5) Ted Williams - Other than Ruth, Williams is the ONLY player to have an OPS higher than 1.100. He's the last guy to hit .400 and he did it in 1941 (but lost the MVP to Dimaggio who had a 56 game hitting streak that season). Oh, and Williams was just getting started at that point as he was only 22. He slugged 521 HR, and could have hit as many as 600 if he hadn't stepped out of baseball for three years as a fighter pilot to defend our country from Nazis...

List your mythical baseball lineup. include a closer and a middle relief pitcher.?
Babe Ruth - This guy was an ace who blted 60 homers when TEAMS were not hitting that amountJoe DiMaggio - They say Joe D always seemed to be under the ball. 56 games in row! He really could do it all.
Jackie Robinson - His breaking of the color barrier overshadows how great he was at the game.
Lou Gehrig - the Iron Horse. Legend has it, he hit a homer off the facade at Yankee Stadium so fast the the umpire did not realize it and he ended up getting a double. He and Ruth tied that year with 47 (?) homers.
Ted Williams: Teddy and Joe DiMaggio were once traded for one another over a few tto many drinks. A cocktail napkin was written securing the deal. The trade never happened when sober heads prevailed.
