Baseball Interleague play question?
Question:I see that the Tigers and Cardinals are playing the first interleague game of the year, and they were against each other in the 2006 world series. Is this coincidence or do they always make the world series teams play each other the first game?

Coincidence.The tentative schedules are first distributed to the teams in late July. The teams then return them with their comments and requests, and the schedules are revised.
They go back to the teams by the end of the season, and the teams can release there own tentative schedules at any time. That's usually in late November/early December. The official schedule is released by teams anywhere from late December to mid-February.
Again, it's simply coincidence.
NB. The first interleague game of the season was played by the White Sox and Cubs.

It isnt the first inter-league game, Chicago Cubs Vs the Chicago White Sox was the first inter-league game today, in which Cubs beat the White Sox 6-3. Go Detroit, beat the Cards.BTW I'm a Braves fan.

It just happened. Usually the divisions do a rotation from year to year. Also, sometimes a MLB team requests to play a team in interleague. For example, Pittsburgh requests to play Cleveland every year and MLB doesnt grant it because they want to keep the home and home with Clev. and Cin.What is your best baseball game experience?
It's happened that way since 2004, Cards and Boston were in the 2004 World Series and played interleague in 2005. Houston and the White Sox 2005 World Series and played in 2006 interleague. Cards and Detroit were in the World Series in 2006 and are playing this year in interleague.More Questions & Answers...
