I think they do have the best pitching staff in baseball. Everybody loves to hate the Red Sox but you gotta give them credit... they do got a pretty solid pitching staff and they do have depth which is more than you can say for a team like the Yankees. They have what I think is the most solid top 3 in baseball: 1.Curt Schilling 2.Josh Beckett 3.Daisuke Matsuzaka and a pretty solid 4 in Tim Wakefield. At 5 they got Julian Tavarez who for the most part this season has done what a #5 starter is expected to do. They also got depth in the minors with pitchers who are good enough to make spot starts if there are injuries. Their bullpen has also surprised many including me. Before they even get to Papelbon they got pitchers like Okajima, Donnelly, Romero, and more to give solid innings. Overall I think they do have the most solid staff in baseball and if your dumb enough to make the argument that the Yankees starters and bullpen is better than the Red Sox you know nothing about baseball!

The Yankees will catch up like they always do! Look at the 2005 season. The Yankees were doing worse at this point and they fought their way to the top on the last day of the regular season but unfortunately crapped out in the playoffs against the Angels.

They might have the best team, but not the best rotation. I think that both Chicago and Detroit have better pitching in the Central alone. But as far as a total team - Boston is the best so far this year.

People can say what they want about a staff when it comes to on paper analysis, but in the end it is the record that counts. Boston has a staff that is pitching pretty well and is getting the job done, and that goes for #1-> #5. Even Tavarez has been doing a good job lately, keeping his earned runs down, giving his team a chance every game. Since that is what a pitching staff is supposed to do day after day, and the Sox pitching staff has been doing that across the board (proven by their MLB leading record) , then yes, I think it would be safe to say Boston has the best rotation in baseball right now.
