Yes, they do need him. They have a good lineup and adequate backups at each position, but he would bring back that old Yankee spirit that most of the current players don't have. The Yankees 10 years ago weren't as good on paper, but showed much more heart on the field. His presence in the club house could make the bombers go on a run and get big winning streak.
