Answers:

Mets fans? Have you forgiven...?

It depends.

The starting pitcher must pitch to the first batter of the game for the opposition, and the batter must reach base or be retired. The only exceptions are if the pitcher becomes injured or is ejected.

Other than that, the pitcher can be removed at any point during a batter's appearance, with two exceptions. The first is when the manager or coach has visited the pitcher during the same appearance by the batter. In this case, the umpires will deny the manager's or coach's request for "time." (If the manager ignores the umpires, he will be ejected, but the pitcher must finish pitching before being removed.)

The second exception is that once a new pitcher is brought in, he cannot be removed until one of the following conditions is met: (1) The batter reaches base, (2) the batter is retired, (3) the offensive team is put out.

Pitchers do sometimes get pulled during an AB. Mostly it's due to injury, but sometimes the manager just wants to get him out before he becomes fubar.

How complicated is buying/owning a major league team?

you can sub in a pitcher at anytime in the count. you do not need to finish the batter. it is the same as if a hitter had a ball and a strike and they took him out for another hitter. it is all legal.

Part -1: The starting pitcher may be removed with or without a count on the batter. Example: Pitcher gets wild and has an 0-3 count. His manager can bring in a relief pitcher. If the batter walks the walk goes to the starting pitcher. But if the batter is retired the out goes to the relief man.
Part -2: When the relief pitcher came in to pitch to the batter, the opposing manager can change batters if he so chooses. The other manager cannot change pitchers at this point. Now this relief pitcher must finish this "at bat". After this batter gets on base or makes an out, then his manager can make another change.
