Boston red sox retired uniform number one?

Question:

Answers:

What would be your perfect starting lineup for the MLB ? Include 5 Starters?

It was retired in honor of Bobby Doerr, the Red Sox secondbasemen in the 1940s.

Doerr was a very good player in his day. The Veterans Committee put him in the Hall of Fame in 1986, and the Sox retired his number 1 soon thereafter.

There has been debate as to whether Doerr deserved to be in the Hall at the time, as he was added during a time when the Veteran's Committee was putting many of their friends and teammates in the Hall. He put up some great seasons for a secondbasemen but his career was relatively short, retiring at 33.
