Answers:
10 points Red Sox -- Yankee question (simple)?
Of course all of these guys in their prime:1 - Ozzie Smith (SS)....580 SB, and 13 Gold Gloves
2 - Willy Mays (CF)...338 SB, .302 AVG, and 660 HR
3 - Alex Rodriguez (3rd).242 SB, .306 AVG, and 470 HR.and counting
4 - Babe Ruth (DH)...714 HR, .314 AVG, and I could pitch him if I need to, dude won over 100 games
5 - Lou Gehrig (1st)...493 HR, .340 AVG, the Iron Horse
6 - Mickey Mantle (RF)...536 HR, .298 AVG, last man to win the Triple Crown, could also run before having knee injuries
7 - Ivan Rodriguez (C)....279 HR, .304 AVG, will be one of the best offensive and defensive catchers ever by the time he's done...maybe the best
8 - Ken Giffey Jr. (LF)..563 HR, .290 AVG, would have been the one chasing Aaron if he could have stayed healthy
9 - Craig Biggio (2nd)....282 HR, 410 SB, .283 AVG, one of the best offensive and defensive second basemen ever
With this line up I have speed at the top and bottom of the line up, and alot of power in the middle. All can hit for average and drive in runs. And rather than just look at the offensive side, I went with guys that would give me a great defense as well. (And yes I realize that Mays, Griffey, and Mantle all played CF...but I bet they could make the adjustment. Also I left out guys like Cobb, Wagner, and Hornsby because they played in the deadball era. While their numbers are empressive, they are also very skewed. Many of the rules were different at the time, and the talent in that era wasn't near as good as it became just a few decades later.I'm sure they were great players, but I seriously doubt they could put up those kinds of numbers now.)
Starting Pitchers
1 - Sandy Koufax (LHP)...one of the most dominant pitchers ever, career cut short by injury
2 - Roger Clemens (RHP)..2nd all-time in Ks, 8th in Wins, we can all see how good he still is, and he pitched his career threw the steriod era facing juiced batters
3 - Nolan Ryan (RHP)....all-time K leader
4 - Warren Spahn (LHP)...one of the greatest off-speed pitchers of all-time, even Koufax admired him
5 - Walter Johnson (RHP).2nd all-time in wins, 9th in Ks, some of the greatest players and managers of all-time say that he was practically untouchable
