It was more common in the 1920s to the 1960s. The reserve clause kept players tied to one team until they were traded. Even after their contract was up, the team they were on was the only team that could re-sign them. Players that I can think of were Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, Carl Yastremski, Willie Stargell, Ernie Banks, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, Warren Spann, and Willie Mays. I'm sure there are others.i have no clue! but i do know that there aren't that many these days with the big contracts everyone can get!
