Weird, but I don't Know Why?
Question:I am 13 and a Softball Pitcher. Just last season, I got hit with a line drive coming about 56-60 mph at my shin and I couldn't react and I got nailed! Now this season, I am totally afraid and I can't pitch strikes! BTW all I used to DO was pitch strikes! Is it my time to retire? I have been pitching and playing the game since I was 3! It used to be a thrill to go out there and play, now it is nothing to me. I want to be a cheerleader, but I am too fat and I think if I told my parents they would be devasted, because they make fun of cheerleading! HELP

Has there ever been a MLB pitcher that used his feet to pitch?
I don't think you should give up...i would hate to see a great strike out pitcher like yourself quit and then go into cheerleading. I think you should go out there and not think about what happened. Just go out there and have fun. This some time happens to pitchers who get hit like that or worse. Like Mat Clement. He got beamed with the ball and since then he was never the same. I think that's a lot worse then getting hit on the shin. The dude got hit on the head. You can also ask to play a different position so you don't have to worry about that. ya.But you shouldn't quit softball. It's a great game...better than cheerleading..lol. jk Just be confident. Look fierce, Be fierce.I think you will do fine.Ummm. This is baseball, try to post it in a personal help place.
Moises Alou 397 avg a fluke, or should the Giants have kept him?
Once you let that fear creep into your head, it's time to change the position- you can still play, though! Don't give upYou are just a little gun-shy. Stay with it and you should be ok. Relax. and breathe. :) There are also protective masks that can be worn during game play to help remove being hit by the ball fear. Example: http://www.gameface.com
Cheerleading is not what it used to be. Cheering is a SPORT, and a very competitive one at that. There are also LOTS of scholarships out there for Cheerleading!
My oldest daughter played Varsity fastt-pitch softball, and was also a Varsity cheerleader. Cheering took much more time and effort, and a LOT more money. And you don't have to be SKINNY either!!
Good luck! And no matter what you do... have FUN!
How's bedard going to do this year?
Just wear protective gear on that leg (or both), until your confidence level is sufficient. Why does everybody allow how stadium deals are done?
CHEERLEADING IT´S ANOTHER TYPE OF SPORT, DON´T BE AFRAID TO TELL YOUR PARENTS YOUR DESIRES CAUSE THEY MAY THINK YOU DON´T TRUST THEM, BUT FIRST THAN ANYTHING IT´S TIME TO LOSE SOME WEIGHT AND FOLLOW A DIET IT´LL HELP YOU TO HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE, WHO KNOW MAYBE YOU COULD FIND LOVE BEING A CHEERLEADER.What does TC mean on the hats of the Minnesota Twins?
you have an anxiety related problem to the fear of softballs hitting you. You need to face this fear and then move on with it and you'll be fine. This is a mental reaction automaticly in your mind. There is a lot of help for anxiety problems from therapy to medication to regular excercises you can do to avoid the fear and get over it. You most likely don't need medication but facing your fear is the only way to get back your edge. have somebody hit you grounder after grounder at you and take some bumps and know that its not going to hurt you badly. You also need to take your mind off the fear when you are on the mound. Sing a song to yourself or think about something totaly off topic when you are pitching. This should help in some ways.Just put on leg protection and that should releave your mind.
What do you think about the start of the season for the Braves? Do they have a chance?
The most revealing statement you made is "It used to be a thrill to go out there and play, NOW ITS NOTHING TO ME."If the game is no longer fun, its time to move on and try something different. Talk to your parents and let them know how you feel. Hopefully they're decent people who will listen to their daughter.
Good luck!
