How many different leagues do exist in Baseball?

Question:I'm Dutch and know very little of baseball sports. I've heard of somebody who has signed a contract with Seattle Mariners and is going to play for the rookie league. What is a rookie league? How many different leagues do exist and what is the objective? Can someone please explain? Thanks!

What does it mean when a batter hits the ball "the other way"?

First, there are two major leagues, the National and American leagues.

Each major league team is in one of these leagues. But each major league team has a series of what are called farm teams. and these teams play at different levels. The best analogy that I can come up with for the concept of farm teams and different levels of leagues is that of a school system. A rookie league would be the (professional baseball) equivalent of kindergarten, the next level up, A ball would be grade school, AA ball would be high school, and AAA ball would be college/university, with the major leagues being the rest of your life. These farm teams are a feeder system for the major league teams.

At each level of professional baseball, there are at least two leagues, but from rookie ball to AAA ball, these are pretty much along geographic lines.

What is the difference between a single and double in baseball?

Well the rookie league is a minor league in which major league teams send there underdeveloped players in hope they will turn into stars with enough playing time. There is the (AA) league thats the lowest league in which really underdeveloped players go. (AAA) League in which players go if they are on the verge of playing pro baseball. Most rookies go into (AA) unless they are really good they might go into (AAA) or even start right off in the majors. The final league is the majors. The best of the best go here and this is the MLB (major league baseball) league.

Do you believe... in the Brewers?

In major league baseball there are certain levels of play where players of approximately the same skill are assigned. The first link below will show the different levels. The idea is to weed out the poor players so the best ones move onto the next level and so on until they become major leaguers.

The second link has the league that the person you heard of will be playing in.

The last two links show the particular team including a player roster. You should be able to find his name on that roster and follow him throughout the season if you wanted to.

There are four levels of play in professional baseball.
Three are considered the "minor leagues"

they are:
- single A (rookie league)
-double A
- triple A

then there are the major leagues which is divided up into two leagues

-american league (the seattle mariners are here)
-national league

usually, minor league teams are paired up with major league teams and major league teams can use any of the minor league players.

How can there be four outs in one Major league baseball inning?

3 leauges

Who is the best ESPN Baseball Analysis? And Why?

When a Player is signed as a Free agent, or drafted by a Major League Baseball team.. Normally, they have to be season/Trained?prepared, BEFORE they are brought to the Major Leagues. So the Major League Team that selected them sends them to lower level leagues to learn. These leagues are refered to as MINOR Leagues. they exist As instructional leagues so a young player can learn and polish his skills till he is ready to be called up to the MAJOR leagues by the team that selected him. Now, the Minor leagues are seperated into levels. You have Instructional League, where raw young players begin and are taught the fundementals they may not know yet.. then you have Rookie League, which is the next step after Instructional League, Then you have A-Ball, which is after Rookie League, then you have AA-Ball, after A-ball, and then AAA-Ball, after AA-ball, and after AAA-ball, the Major League Team may think the player is ready to be called up to the Big Team, the Major League team, and The Player becomes a Major League Player, which is the end goal of ALL baseball Players, to reach the Major Leagues. Now, Every Major League Team, Seattle, The Yankees, The Red sox, The Dodgers, Etc... ALL of them, have their own MINOR league affiliates, these are the Instructional League, Rookie League, A, AA, and AAA leagues i mentioned. So every Major League Team does not send their players to the same teams and Leagues to Train and learn. There are Many Minor League teams in the United States, and Each Major League Organization is associated with a specific Rookie, A-ball, AA-ball, and AAA-ball Team.

example: the NY Yankees AAA team that their young players are on before coming to the Yankees is in Scranton Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania "Red Barons"... And the Boston Red Sox AAA team their young players are on before coming to the Red Sox is the Pawtucket Rhode Island "PawSox"... every Major League Team has Minor League Teams at every level of Player Developement i mentioned (instructional, rookie, A, etc...). now, Each Level is a League of its own, The Rookie League teams play each other, the A-Ball teams play each other, the AA-ball league teams play each other, etc... So 31 Major League (MLB) Teams, all with 5 levels of developmental training teams, thats alot of leagues. then There are independent Leagues that operate outside of the Major League Associated leagues.. It would take a very long time to name every league playing baseball in this country.

Does anybody know how many homeruns alex gordon had his senior year of high school?

There are 2 Leagues:
American
National
And three divisions in each:
East
Central
West
The divisions relate to the location of the team's city.

Indians fans, explain yourselves?

Okay well the three main leagues are the National Leagu and the American Lague in Pro Baseball aka MLB Baseball. Then there's the minor leagues which consists of Single A, Double A and Triple A. Anyway since some kids are drafted out of high school as well as those players who are drafted out of college and have some potetnial many aren't ready to play in the Major Leagues aka professional ball so they go to the Minor Leagues and work their way up form Single A to Double A to Triple A and eventually to the big leagues. I hope this helps out at all.
