Has there ever been a picher that has batted lead-off in a lineup?

actually baseball was the most watched sport up to the early 80's. Maybe the question should why isn't it anymore? I think society and everything moved slower and we were patient in general and baseball was a nice relaxing game to watch. Now everyone has attentions spans shorter then a hobbits cac so it's receded in popularity. I know I loved Baseball as a kid and now I harly ever watch it.

Need help getting my fantasy baseball roster straight?

Baseball was so popular in the sixties due to all the huge black talent finally being let into the league like they should have been long before that. These were the days of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, and one of the best black pitchers ever in Bob Gibson with the Cardinals.

What is wrong with Steinbrenner et al?

Baseball was riding a crest of popularity - and really had no major competition. Football was just starting its climb, and basketball and hockey weren't even on the roadmap.

But football started to slowly take the interest of people more and more. Starting with the Colts/Giants OT playoff game but fully grabbing the attention of the American populace when the Jets beat the Colts in Super Bowl III, football started its climb that has ended with the NFL having its own network and programming being available 24/7.

Football really has replaced baseball as the American Pastime, and NASCAR has the possibility of replacing both.

But why was baseball so popular in the 60s? Because for many generations before, there just wasn't anything else to compete.

Looking for minor league baseball team las vegas 51's?

I believe more people watched people in the 60's because there was more dominant players. Using a 4 man starting rotation, pitchers (like Sandy Koufax) would get a chance to start 40, usually more, games, allowing them to get more dominant numbers. Hitters would use the whole field, runners would steal home, take the extra bag and get in exciting run downs.

They played more for fun that for money in the 60's and before, and i think it was easy for the fans to pick up

10 points to explain the rule 5 draft to me?

I agree with mike, it was because there was no other sport that was that big of a deal. Football hadn't reached its prime yet, basketball was just starting to get popular with Boston and UCLA starting dynasties, and hockey...was being hockey.
