Have the Yankees ruined Major League Baseball?

Question:Many people think that since the Yankees can basically buy the World Series there's no point in supporting their local team anymore. If another team is doing well, fans also assume the Yankees will just go out and buy the talent to take over. Keep in mind that the Yankees raise more TV revenue than all other teams combined.

Don't Yankee fans want to see competitive teams? Don't they get bored of watching their team win year after year?

Would like your opinions on this. I've noticed even our sportscaster cover games with a huge amount of pessimism since we're in the same division of the Yankees.

Curt Flood lost the Supreme Court Case, so why is there free agency in baseball?

Yes the Yankees are ruining baseball. In 2005 Ladanian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers made $5,041,000. That same year the average salary for a player on the yankees was $5,660,000. Do you remember Jaret Wright? Yeah me neither, he made 5,888,000 in 05. He was a suck *** no talent pitcher, who probably isn't in the league anymore, but made more money then the best NFL player in the whole league. While they yankees get huge tv ratings and bring in tons of cash, about 60-70% of teams in the league can be catagorically illiminated from the playoffs every year before the season even starts. The reason I'm as big of a baseball fan as I am is because I grew up watching the Minnesota Twins, who at the time had Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbeck, and a chance to be competitive every year.
If you're some kid growing up in Kansas City today whats your motivation to like baseball. The royals haven't had a single winning month in 4 years, and they haven't had a shot at the playoffs in about 14 years. Mean while the Chiefs are in the hunt for at least the nfl playoffs every year.

A salary cap in baseball(even a high one), would make baseball so much more interesting, and fun to watch on a year to year bases it's ridiculous, and while the yankees wouldn't make as much money. The whole league would make way way more, and that would be better for baseball.

Can you come up with some good omens for the Cubs this year? I have two in mind that are serious but funny?

You should ask Curt Flood this question. He started free agency, which has led to this mess that we are in today with these outrageous salaries. You knock New York for putting up the money for the best players? Well they did not create the problem, they just say "so what" and deal the cards. It's only because yankee fans are the best fans, that the owners have the bucks to do what they have to do. So maybe you need to stop knocking the best team, and the best fans in baseball, and follow our lead.get your stuff together!

Are there minimum dimensions for a major league baseball park?

Yeah, put a salary cap in place and see how often the Yankees make the playoffs

Should Major League Baseball bring in the salary cap to dismantle the dynasty that is being built?

In theory yes but the Yankees are not living up to the Champion buying persona.I mean you have to actually win something, right?

What % of major league baseball players are US citizens?

I don't think they have. Even with the overspending they do every year, they have not won a World Series since 2001. It's probably even good for the sport to have a team that fans love to hate.

I get sick of hearing about the Yankees, but since there has been a different champion every year since the Yankees last won, baseball is very interesting right now.

How about that crazy Yankee rally this afternoon?

The Yankees have guys sitting on the bench that would be starters on any other team. I can understand Steinbrenner and his desire to win, but like you said, "competitive teams".
It does look like there is a light at the end of the tunnel, though. In a lot of recent interviews, (past few years), players, while still playing for the $, are also playing with a lot more heart, and heart can beat the best "bought" player any given day. Remember team USA vs the Russians? (olympic hockey) Same idea.

Do the Yankees and Mets play in the same stadium?

The Yankees can't buy a World Series every year. They just buy the ability to be in contention every season. They haven't won a World Series since 2000. It's a fact of the game that the Yankees will spend whatever it takes to stay competitive. If you're not a Yankees fan, you begin to hate them. And you are pleased not only when your team does well, but when the Yankees fail. I can see your point about being in the same division as them. The Yankees and Red Sox will rule that division for the most part. Toronto's made great strides towards competing with those big 2 but it's yet to be seen if they can truly make a difference there.

Do you think The San Diego Padres will win the division ?

No. But that's what the imposter in the commissioner's office is trying to do.

Anyone know website that sell japanese baseball glove?

I am a die hard red sox fan and I dont believe that the yanks have ruined baseball for the fact they are not winning championships every year or even lately for that matter. They spend all that money but other teams are beating them with much smaller payrolls. Nothing makes me happier than to see teams like the D-rays show them up with their low budget team. You have to buy the players that fir into your team and need all the pieces. The Yanks have the bats, but the pitching needs tons of work.

Scott Rolen?

the yankees are simply taking advantage of the fact that they play in far and away the biggest market and using their revenue to get the players they want if your team or any other team wanted to get the same players it would be perfectly legal so dont complain to the yanks complain to your owner for not spending his billions george is willing to spend other owners just dont seem interested
by the way its not just the yankees all mlb teams have ridiculous salaries and if your going to complain about the yanks complain about boston and the mets who have competitive salaries to the yanks
oh and if there was a salary cap it would have to be more then the highest salary in mlb so the yanks would still be ok and there salary has decreased 2 years in a row i dont think many teams have done that
note the yanks are the most popular team in baseball by a lot so there winning is actually probably good for the sport

What are the most valuable baseball cards for 1990?

No. The Yankees have not "ruined" baseball.
They can buy the good players, but they have
not won a world series in several years.
You can not blame the Yankees for being a
good team. And of course the Yankees fans
don't want to see the Yankees loose, if they did
they would not be "Yankees fans".If they wanted
to see there team loose they would be Cubs fans.

Why does an umpire in a baseball game face the backstop when dusting off home plate?

The Yankees cannot buy the world series. Why do you think they haven't been there since '03 and why haven't they won the world series since 2000? Other teams in the playoffs have proven that the Yankees payroll doesn't garauntee them a spot in the world series.

Secondly, baseball has slowly become more and more competative with the emergence of the teams coming out of the AL central. So we do have some competative teams. Detroit, Minnesota, Chicago, and Cleveland could all push for the division title and or the wildcard.

A few years ago, the AL central was one of the weakest divisions in the league. The competative balance in the league is improving.

I don't think the Yankees have exactly ruined major league baseball. Over the last few seasons, they obviously haven't been head and shoulders above everyone else in the playoffs.

I'm almost 14 should I throw a pitch with movement?

Well they haven't won a championship in a few years now. But teh sad truth is King Moron BUD SELIG has ruined Major League baseball with his 02 stike agreement his all tie game banning fantsasy baseball after this year, a totally bogus luxry tax, a flip flop testing policy (Why wasn't Ego maniac Barry suspended for 25 games for a poistive ampthetamine test??) a tv deal that litearlly blows and I want to know why he hasn''t been FIRED YET???

Do you have any redsox home game tickets?

Although I think there should be a salary cap in baseball, the Yankees have not "ruined" the game. As much as I despise the fact that they have so much money to buy the best players off poorer teams, like my Oakland A's, it is funny that they still aren't winning every World Series. This year their starting rotation is weaker than many teams, especially their rival Boston's. Bottom line is, with as much money as they spend, they should win the World Series every year, but you obviously can't just throw a bunch of all-stars on the field and expect them to win.

In MLB, which pitcher got a really bad name of throwing "Chin Music" ball to batter?

I've already given a dissertation on this site as to why MLB needs to eliminate 8 teams for the long term health of the game. I even gave a version of it today so I'm not going to repeat myself.
If you really love and support your team , then go up to management and say " I really love and support my team and to prove it I am willing to pay what Yankee fans pay for their seats. " I think it's a great idea, not likely to happen ,but a great idea . While you're at it, tell the owner that he should be like George Steinbrenner and put as much money back into the team as possible. You're doing your part he should do his.
The Yankees aren't the problem , having major league baseball in minor league towns is.

Which major-league Player was a member of both the Montreal Expos and the Toronto Blue Jays in their inaugura

Give John C the ten points.

Where did Gabe Kapler ( of the Red Sox ) go?

No, you people ruin baseball. George isn't the only owner with money. Our owner pays to win. Our fans pay to win. Old George loses money. The owners of the worst MLB teams makes money. I'm happy with what I'm paying for. Go cry elsewhere.

And I just had to quote this from Kyle C.:

"I am a die hard red sox fan and I dont believe that the yanks have ruined baseball for the fact they are not winning championships every year or even lately for that matter."

Dude? We haven't won in 6 years and a RED SOX FAN says we haven't won lately? Great. All we need now is a Cubs fan to come here and tell us how to field a winning team. Maybe a Devil Ray fan can coach us on how to deal with success. Go back to grade school.

Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn replica jersey?

Although I would be inclined to agree with you, I'm afraid that your "theory" if you will, never made if off the ground. The Yankees haven't won the World Series since 2000 and haven't been since 2003.

As a Yankee fan myself, I've been even more frustrated than ever watching my team not win after spending all that money.

So yes the Yankees have lots of money and are buying talent. But no, apparently it's not helping them win.

7 Ways to take a base?

No. They are the ambassadors of Major League Baseball.
