Who became a free agent in 1980 when the Red Sox didn’t mail his contract on time?

You're absolutely right. The catcher does all of those things and is a very important player on the team. If you don't have a good overall catcher who knows how to call games as well as play defense then you're in trouble. But of course you need good players at other positions as well.

How good do you think Soriano is going to be?

i dont think that you will get very much agreement with you on this.

without a doubt, the pitcher is the most important defensive player.

Pitcher,Manager and Owner are the 3 Hardiest Jobs in Baseball

If he could...?

Well, I see why you think that, and I somewhat agree. I've been playing catcher for 6 years so I know it's a very important position, along with pitcher. That's why the catcher/pitcher combination is called the Battery. They share the duty of running the game. They're both essential positions to victory. A team cannot function without either the catcher or the pitcher.

I'm looking for some St. Louis Cardinal songs, other than Redbird Fever. Any ideas?

I am a catcher so I am kind of like the captain of the field directing people where to go and calling the right pitch to be thrown so we are very important.

Fantasy Baseball: Is My Team Good? Strengths/Weaknesses/Suggestions?

The pitcher is the most important.

When does baseball season start?

Have to disagree, a pitcher is the most important player on the playing field, no other player has the ability to influence or sway the outcome as much as a pitcher. While a pitcher works in tandem w/ a catcher, a pitcher is very much more critical to a team. All players are necessary as w/o offense, a pitcher can pitch shutouts and still lose - but in the end the most important guy stands on the mound, if he beats the batter chances are the team does well

Jorge Posada in ESPN Commerical?

As I preach to my players, the most important player on the team is the person with the baseball. Whoever has the baseball controls what happens with it.

Catchers play a very important role on a team, but unfortunately it isn't high profile except in a few cases.

Good catching is really only noticed when it isn't there, and more often than not, fans look for the OFFENSE a catcher provides instead of his defense and his ability to call a good game.

I am a huge fan of catchers. You can have all the great players you want, but without a solid catcher, you're not going to win as many games as you should.

What's up with Oliver Perez?

Catchers are pretty important to the game. They are like the captain of the infield. They need to have good communication with the pitchers. They need to know who's coming up to the plate so that they can make the correct call to the pitcher. They also need to communicate with the infield and many times they take a hit when there is a close play at homeplate. Because of the important role of a catcher, perhaps that's why many become managers (Mike Scioscia, Bob Brenley, Bob Melvin)

However, I feel it takes all nine players on the field to make a great team. Even if you have the greatest catcher, it won't mean much if the eight other guys aren't performing.

Have the NYMets ever swept a three game series from the NY Yankees in interleague play?

i agree with you the catcher has to always be thinking...he has to be very smart...the pitcher is hard but he doesnt have to think all he has to do is pitch pretty much so i agree with u 100 percent

Do you think someone will eventually break Bond's fake HR record?

Defensively, the pitcher is the most important player becuase he touches the ball on 100% of the plays, but the catcher is the second most important player because he touches the ball the second-most number of times, that is, almost every time the ball is not hit.

Will the Texas Rangers win tonight against Cleveland in xtra innings?

i think its a tie between the catcher and the pitcher. they have to work with each other good enough to shut down the other teams offense. the pitcher throws what the catcher told him to throw and then the catcher has to stop/block the ball so the are pretty equal

Will the yanks turn it around?

As a catcher myself I feel catching is very important but also there is so much more that also counts in the game. The catcher always depends on the pitcherr if the pitcher pitches perfect strikes then it is easier for the catcher to catch but if the pitcher is wild it is harder to catch. There are no important players each player contributes to the team whether it is in a big or small way. In a catcher's view the catcher contributes alot!
