Who was better willie, mickey or the duke?
Question:the great old 1950's new york debate?
Answers:
Whats your favorite thing 2 do?
If you are going to rank the three I would go with:1. Willie Mays- hit the most homeruns, stole the most bases, played the best defense. While it might not have been fair that Mantle hurt himself several times in his career whereas Mays was healthy, Mays also took much better care of himself.
2. Mickey Mantle- Switch hit. Had the best individual seasons of the three. Had he stayed healthy in 1961 probably gets to or very near 60 homeruns- as if 54 wasn't close enough. The big injuries hit soonafter and he hung around at least two or three years longer than he should have.
3. Duke Snider- Should not be sold short coming in third to those guys. Great power hitter and a quiet leader on Brooklyn Dodgers teams that had a pretty good run at winning pennants at that time, and went out to help the Dodgers win their first LA series in 1959.
Will Chipper Jones stay with the Braves for the rest of his career?
Willie who? Willie Mays. C'mon, easily Mays. Whether knocking the cover off of the ball, stealing bases, stretching singles into doubles and triples. Making tough catches look fairly routine. He was good, very good, one of the best ever to play the game PERIOD.I want to know an estimate of how many errors A-Rod will have this year.?
Ted WilliamsWillie Mays hands down. He had all the tools necessary to be a great player. He could hit for power, for average, great base stealer, great defensive player. Consider this, he lost 2 years to military service and he also played a lot of years at Candlestick park. Without those 2 things against him he may have hit over 800 home runs.
Worlds fastest baseball pitch?
Had to be Willie, but mickey would have been with better knees, lifestyle. not duke, for sure.Willie Mays was the better player but the other two men, Mantle and Snider won more championships with their teams.
Are there any pitchers that threw no-hitters in both leagues?
First of all, with all due respect to his Brooklyn fans, I don't see how Snyder gets into the discussion. Mays and Mantle are in the top ten players of all time. It's a hard call between the two of them. Mays certainly had the edge in longevity. Mantle's injuries certainly didn't help him but he still gives Mays a battle in their peak years.I don't think you'd go wrong with either. But in the end Mantle has more rings.
Who was the first pitcher in MLB to throw A no-hitter?
Come on my friend, you know how I'm going to answer this question, but at least let me tell you why. Once upon a time there were three major league teams in New York. We know who they were. At the peak of there game all three teams had three pretty good center fielders as I recall. Now the Duke was more than just a good player but was he a hall of fame caliber player? Probably not, but the fans loved him and the team was successful so a few friendly votes finally got him elected. I have no problem with that after all his numbers were kind of hall of famish! Now for the real answer. In terms of shear talent no one could even come close to Mickey Mantle. What he was able to accomplish on two terribly injured legs for his entire career is short of a miracle. Forget the stats for just a moment as Mays had a healthier and longer career. The fact remains that Mantle was a better hitter, faster runner and by far had the greater throwing arm. Mantle won 3 MVP's, Mays won 2. Mantle won a triple crown award. Mays never won one. Each one a batting title. But the real value comes with the success of the team and this is where Mantle separates himself from both the Say Hey Kid and The Duke. Mantle lead his team to 12 American League Pennants and 7 World Series Championships.
I know many will say Mays was better and the arguments are probably valid in their own minds but no one had Mantles talent..no one!
To date, who has pitched the only no-hitter in Toronto Blue Jays history?
Willie.Say hey kid...Willie Mays without a doubt of those three in my humble opinion 2nd best baseball player ever only to the "bambino" himself ,George Herman Ruth...I don't think it should be a debate at all...look at the numbers.
How hard could it be to be a Yankees or Red Sox fan?
