I thoroughly agree. Baseball is full of great players that did FAR worse things than betting on baseball. At least Rose never set off to throw a game...he'd always bet on his one team!How do you prepare for a baseball game?
I met Pete Rose on an airplane a few days before the gambling scandel broke. He was humble, polite, and had a real classy air about him. I would vote for him to be in the Hall of Fame. He did make some mistakes, but we all do, and he has paid a very dear price for those mistakes.Isn't it funny that the Yankees spend so much money and still need help?
I agree that Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame.Unlike, other players (Ty Cobb & Babe Ruth come to mind) Pete played in an era where media attention to off field character faults have caused him problems. I am sure that if Ty's gambling and Babe's womanizing, drinking, gambling etc. were done in today's game, neither of these greats would be in the Hall of Fame either.

As a player, there is no doubt in anyone's mind (I would assume) that Pete Rose was the greatest hitter of all time. And nobody will beat that any time soon. But, he had some objectionable extracurricular activities. That being said, the hall of fame looks at the total person, not just ability on the diamond. I think he is black listed for life, and Bud Selig will never let him in.When was the last time the LA Dodgers won the World Series?
A hall of fame player should be judged into the Hall by what he did on the field. Not off the field. Pete was such a great player, he was phenomenal. Just b/c he had some off field issues people think he's not worthy. If they voted Babe in by his off the field life he would not make it.How is a Pitchers ERA calculated?

Yes, he did bet on baseball, but as a manager. We're not talking about electing him in as a manager, but as a player. However, if Pete Rose is elected, so should Joe Jackson!

Have you ever noticed that there is not an outpouring of support for Pete from players? There is a reason for this and it is because the players have no respect for him. Mr. Rose was a great player, but what he did put a sour taste in every baseball fans mouth and should never be allowed in the hall. There is a lot more to it than just betting on baseball. At least he finally admitted to some of what he did, but only to make some money on his book and to try to kiss Bud's *** in hopes of getting in before he dies. Sorry Pete, but you will never see the hall.I actually wrote a 10 page paper on the topic in High School but the short answer is yes.

He belongs there but a lot of self righteous people will see to it that he never gets there. If you took all the players out of the Hall of Fame that were lousy people you'd have very few left.
