Well leave Gil Meche alone for the moment, as insane as i thought his contract was, he is living up to it at the moment.Zito's contract was a joke, not Zito himself.
Zito is above average, he is quality, he is predictable, you can could on 30starts. He isn't a bad guy to have.
He is a bad guy for have for 7/126. He isn't close to being an Ace, paying him as one is insane.
He will go ok with the Giants, never up to the contract. Lincecum, and Cain are the aces of the future.

Barry Zito is joke because he just does not have good stuff in baseball terms. His stuff is just average therefor making him an average pitcher at best. His six years with the Giants will be an up and down roller coaster.Who do you see as the biggest off-season bust so far?
All he has is that huge, looping curve ball and nothing else. I do not think he has ever hit 90 mph in his life. He needs to get batters chasing that, and that only works when his curve is lights out. Otherwise, he either walks a ton of guys (like tonight) or give up a stack of homers... or both. The only reason he got what he got was the desperation of the Giants for ANY sign of success from a starter (especially after Schmidt took off). Him staying with the Giants, with their lack of any fire power (minus Baroid, of course) will be tough to watch, being a Bays ball fan.I really wish the A's had kept Hudson instead of Zito out of the Big 3. He's the only one who deserves the praise he got back when they were all on the A's... now the Braves are reaping that success.

All that money has gotten to him, All the preaure plus I'msure he has millions of bonuses which he is starting to relize he will never get due to his poor performanceBarry Zito was overpaid, period...but most of that was due to the inflated market (Gil Meche, $55 mil, wtf?!)...he will have his ups and downs, but overall, he is just an above-average pitcher, who is incredibly inconsistent, but his stats will level out like previous years. His best attribute is his durability, so you can count on him to pitch every 5th day, but he is now impossible to trade, due to the massive contract he signed...no one will want to put that on their payroll

Zito a joke the only joke is your question. Zito has the best curveball in the league. He's averaged 15 wins a year the past six years there aren't many pitchers that have that ability and talent. He'll win with San Francisco and he'll stay the full six years so when he has another 100-110 wins in that six year span it wouldn't be a joke. He's going to win 15-20 games a year with San Francisco. Also he's durable hasn't missed a start.long hair.I think he will tail off at the end of his contract.

Barry Zito has excellent stuff. He will do fine the rest of the year. My concern as a Giants fan is when are we going to get some bats. Our line-up makes me want to yawn with the exception of Barry Bonds. Barry Zito is a finesse type pitcher. He is consistent and durable. I agree that he may not be the ace of any staff. Right now I consider Matt Cain the Ace. I think Zito would be a good number 2 starter. Just like a Jamie Moyer and Greg Maddux. Zito will have a long and excellent career.Zito is not a joke, he is just getting off to a slow start. He will pull together a string of strong starts for a month and everyone will rave about how he is returning to cy young form, it happened every year he played for the A's. He is a good pitcher, his walk totals will always be high, just look at his best season (2002) stats and you will notice even then he put a lot of men on base on balls but his greatest asset is his ability to keep hitters from hitting a high average on him. Zito was top 5 in opponents batting avg. against 4 times and at least top 10 every other year.
You will always see players get on base against him but opponents always have a hard time driving men on base in. Zito's stuff indicates he is a finesse pitcher because he doesn't have overpowering stuff by the conventional manner but when he is on his game he resembles more a power pitcher, with high strike out totals. Also it still amazes me how he will blow an 88 mph pitch by people when he has a good change and his big curve is being called for strikes, it literally looks like hitters can't catch up with his fast ball.
Zito is not a joke. But he wont be the Giants #1 starter next year. If the can get someone to hit the ball in the next 6 years the Giants should win something with the starters they have
