You say you are horrible at hitting the ball. I have to wonder if you are making contact but just hitting weak ground balls or pop-ups, or are you swinging and missing quite a bit?

The swing at everything method above is not a very good approach to hitting other than it teaches you how to put the bat on the ball no matter where the pitch is. It teaches you very bad habits, because every pitch is not "hittable".

Take a batting tee and put the ball on it and practice making good contact with the ball on the tee first, then move to trying to control where you hit the ball to from the tee. Next move on to the tether ball, where the ball is on a string and wraps itself around a pole. It gives you a moving target to hit that is still under control. After you are making good contact with the tether ball, move into the batting cage at the slowest speed setting and increase the speed after you are making good contact at each speed.

The key to good hitting is keeping your eye on the ball until the ball hits the bat. Don't try to catch the ball with the bat unless you are bunting and definitely do not throw the bat at the ball. Just make sure you watch your bat hit the ball each time you make a swing, follow the ball all the way into the catchers glove on pitches you don't swing at. It was a habit that Pete Rose used all the way up until the day he stopped playing and it worked well for him. Watch the videos of major league swings and you will see that their eyes are on the ball all the way through impact.

Just look at the ball swing but not super hard just swing like you can keep the bat under control. Not just waveing it around.

Whos is the best closer pitcher in the MLB?

Get a good eye at the plate and try and draw walks or get ahead in the count making the pitcher throw a good pitch to hit swing and hit it...pretend the ball is the thing you most afraid of and hit it as far away as you can.

Does anybody know who holds the MLB record for turning the most Triple Plays?

If you often miss, the best advice is to pretend to "catch the ball with the bat", or "throw the bat at the ball". All this means is don't move your head and watch the ball connect with the bat.
If you're making contact, but have no power, the best advice I can give is to make sure you get full extension. When I'm not hitting well, I try to remember to extend my arms, and don't swing while bent at the elbow. Also, keep your feet still. Big leaguers take big steps into the ball, but concentrate on keeping your feet on the ground and getting good rotation in your hips. hope that helps.

My top 2 hitting tips:

- Aim to hit the top of the ball ( dont know why this works but it does)

- "Throw your hands at the ball": this means stay loose, let you wrists and fingers work. Dont be tense or you're screwed.

How hard are the Seibu Lions laughing right now?

Hitting for power is mostly waist down, so you need to pivot your back foot and open your hips when you swing...put all your wait on that back foot...and then your arms should follow. If you want more power, coil up before you release the bat. If you need contact help, move your hands lower and closer forward and always keep your eye on the ball, always...don't stick your attention to the pitcher, just follow the ball all the way and watch it hit the bat. Hand-eye coordination helps too, of course. Keep your stance simple and easy. And when the count is against you, shorten up your swing, and what I mean by that is swing for less power and more contact. That covers about everything. Watch the pros play on TV...when they show the replays pay close attention to what I'm talking about.

Should i take a chance at baseball?

70% of hitting is 90% mental and that is about 50% of baseball - I think Yoggi Bear said something like, and if you understand any of that you are 62.3% on the road to recovery.
Every time you come to the plate you have decided your fate by telling yourself that you suck. That causes hesitation which causes failure. I think most people have trouble spending too much time time trying to decide if a pitch is ball or strike BEFORE they swing. Here are some simple rules - if you swing and miss, it was a strike. If it's in the dirt, it was a ball (depending on your umpire). But the truth is that there are only two types of pitches you face - the ones you can hit and ones you can't. Sometimes we spend too much time trying to look for one pitch and the hesitation is in your mind. I spend batting practice early in season on "swing at everthing" practice and intentionally bounce balls, throw at the hitter, loop a couple outside - and you must swing at everything. You must first know that you can beat the ball no matter where it is. My best pro example is Vlad Guerrero, he hits balls 4 inches off the plate for HR's. But also hits for .330+ avg and thinks if he can reach it he can hit it. That doesn't mean that swings at everything it just means that in his mind he knows that the majority of pitches thrown are supposed to be in a strike zone and he has made up his mind prior to the pitch that he is going to hit it. 33% of the time he is right and that is better than most hitters who decide to wait and see.
I had a kid who was a "bad hitter" just like you who went through my hit what ever I throw clinic and was hitting in a state championship in the last inning with the game on the line, instead of signaling hit away I pulled him to the side and told him he had three swings and I don't care if the pitcher throws the ball in the dirt or over his head he will swing at three pitches only. The second pitch was lined off the CF fence for a game winning double..
Are you inspired yet?. then here is the "How" part that may help you.

Take a normal hard swing and mark where you front foot landed. Then move your front foot back 3 to 4 inches, don't let let yourself talk you into anymore than that. Then take your stance to address the pitch with about 90% of your weight on his back leg (you will almost feel like your front is floating). Don't move the front foot back before the swing, stay very still (you will feel like you have no strength or power in the swing). The idea is to take the step almost out of the swing, you will naturally take a small step (the 3 inches you took away). When you take a swing, with no step, your head and shoulders should remaining in the hitting position throughout the swing and should not raise or lower. The small step you do take will naturally push your body and weight back into the power position behind the ball. By doing this you will pick up the ball faster (because your head doesn't move) and your hands will be quicker because you start in the hitting zone. Even though at first you may feel like you are losing power you will actually become a more powerful and consistant hitter as long as the ball is put into the hitting zone.

There are several MLB players who use this method - some guy name Albert Pujols, for what ever that is worth... Even his wife has pointed out to him that when he starts to slump his stance narrows and his weight is too far forward.

Hang on to this question, spend 2 days in a batting cage and do what I said about keeping your upper body still by removing the step and then pick your best answer... It's not complicated, hitting is easy.

Is it possible Albert Pujols is on his way to Hank's homerun record?

buy a "johnny bench batter-up" and practice.

Do you think it is fair for Barry Bonds will break Hank Aarron's homerun record ?

Use a batting tee...

I know people think of batting tees as little kids' aids, but they really help!

What should the Astros do with Brad Lidge?

its okay, we all start somewhere... keep you eyes on the ball. usually the first throw for me is practice, observe how the pitcher pitches, second, grab the bat tightly, lol.. you dont want to let it go. (its happened before).. swing away. hopefully you get some hits, and there are going to be times where we all get struck out, so dont worry, darling, hope this helps. good luck! most of all, HAVE FUN!!
