Are major league pitchers able to through a ball as fast on a little league field?

Question:The reason I ask is on little league games, they compare a little leagers fastball and state how fast it would be in the majors. Does the ball accelerate because it is thrown in a downward motion? It seems possible to me that the gravity pulling down the ball could accelerate it while falling in a downward motion. I do know however that a ball going up obviously slows down.

There is no shortage of baseball rules trivia, right?

The difference here is that the distance is shorter for a little league pitcher. Because of this a slower pitch gets to the plate faster. What they are talking about is the time the hitter gets to react to a particular pitch. I don't know the exact numbers here, but a 60 MPH pitch would take the same time to go the shorter distance as an 85 mph pitch would take to cover the longer distance of a major league field. The ball actually slows down through the course of the pitch due to friction on the ball. MLB pitchers just throw so hard this is pretty much nonexistent over 60 feet.

How many time have the toronto blue jays been in the playoffs?

Throw.

Your question is basic physics. The resistance of the air molecules themselves cause the ball to slow as it mores from the pitchers's hands to the plate.

That also explains fast and slow radar guns. The fast gun measures the pitch speed as the ball leaves the pitcher's hand, and the slow one as it crosses the plate.

Is baseball really harder than softball?

They can throw as fast on a little league field. They are still pitching arent they? They have the same arm dont they? The field doesnt matter but i would hate the be the catcher.

How does the MLB luxury tax work?

the velocity on a little leage field would be greater because the distance from the mound to the plate is shorter and most MLB pitchers would be 1/2 way or 3/4 of the way to the plate by the time they release the ball.

Why havent the A's games been shown live for some of the games this year?

its different the little league kids throw approxamitally whatever it is in the majors from a majors distance so like from whatever the speed is from the little league distance would equal the equivelant of pitch speed thrown from a major league distance and throwing downhill does make u throw harder but a ball up in the zone is not allways slower most people throw a ball harder up in the zone

Did anyone ever see Sid Finch pitch?

slows down a little bit
