Why do the Toronto Blue Jays start games at 7 minutes past the hour?
Question:I realise this may be a somewhat trivial question, however following the baseball from the UK this is something that keeps making me curious...

The pre-game ceremonies, throwing out the first pitch, national anthem, etc... start on the hour and they allow 7 minutes for these activities to be completed. Since they are in Canada both the American and Canadian National Anthems are played which is why they start at 7 minutes after the hour not 5 after the hour like all other games.Why do the Atlanta Braves have all thier games televised on TBS?
I'm going to assume this,I'm not usre but it could be a Canadian thing or it could be what we all expect,more money.Maybe they make more money having it at 7:07 instead of 7:00.Like they aren't rich enough.Why do I suck so bad at baseball?
The way I understand it, the Blue Jays have a sponsorship agreement with the 7-UP Bottling Company for this year, so decided to start the games at seven minutes after the hour to drive home the point. Makes sense to me.I just hope they are never sponsored by EX LAX or something like that; who knows how they will get THAT point across?!?!?

The 7 minutes past the hour/half hour is so they can sing the national anthems, announce the lineups/any other important things.
Television broadcasts start on the hour, (not at 5 or 10 minutes to the hour) so I guess they want the television audience hear the anthems.
Doesn't have to do with 7-up, they have always done this.

Are you sure it's 7 and not 5. All baseball games start at 1:05pm or 4:05pm, or 8:05pm. Sometimes 15 minutes past the hour, if it's going to be on National TV (FOX)That's the way it's scheduled by MLB. Bluejays don't schedule their games so the answer about being sponsored by 7-UP is a bunch of crock.
Actually, you are right, some are scheduled 7 past the hour, and even 10 past the hour. But most are scheduled 5 mins past the hour...and like others said, for pregame festivites.
