The longest SS/2B duo was Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker, 18 years for the Tigers. I would have to say they were the best fielding duo as well. They hold the AL record, playing together in 1,918 games. They also set the major league record by turning more double plays than any other shortstop-second baseman combination in the history of professional baseball. They both won Gold Gloves in the same season, two seasons in a row ('83-84). They combined for 7 Gold Gloves and 11 All-Star games.

For 4 months in 1993, Roberto Alomar played alongside Tony Fernandez. They ended up with 14 Gold Gloves between them, compared to NONE for either Lemke or Blauser. Oh, and Fernandez and Alomar won helped to win a World Series, which again, is something that Lemke and Blauser can't say of themselves. Sorry, but Blauser wasn't on the WS roster in '95.

OK, if you don't like that combination, how about Dave Concepcion and Joe Morgan, who played side-by-side from 1972 - 1979 and WS victories in '75 and '76.
